GIPUZKOA, SPAIN: Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp reunited at the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, and the actress shared a heartwarming moment from their encounter on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, September 24.

It’s been 23 years since they starred together in the cult classic 'Blow', in which they portrayed a volatile couple entangled in the world of drug trafficking.

While Cruz accompanied her husband, Javier Bardem, who received the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award, at the festival, Depp was there for the world premiere of his second directorial feature, 'Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness', based on a screenplay by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.

'Blow' was based on the real-life stories of drug trafficker George Jung

In Ted Demme's 2001 film 'Blow', Johnny Depp played real-life criminal George Jung, who became the leading cocaine importer for Colombia's Medellin cartel in the 1970s, while Penelope Cruz portrayed his fiery Cuban wife, Mirtha Jung.

'Blow', based on Bruce Porter's 1993 book, chronicles George's life and his connections with infamous drug lords, including Pablo Escobar and Carlos Lehder Rivas, the latter depicted as Diego Delgado.

The film's cast also included Franka Potente as Barbara "Barbie" Buckley, and a young Emma Roberts as Kristina Sunshine Jung, the daughter of Cruz and Depp's characters, with Jaime King playing the older version of Kristina, as per Daily Mail.

The duo also worked together in the 2011 film, 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. Depp brought to life the legendary pirate and former captain of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow, while Cruz played Angelica, Jack's former love interest, first mate, and the daughter of Blackbeard.

They later reunited for the 2017 film, 'Murder on the Orient Express', adapted from Agatha Christie's novel of the same name.
