Britney Spears sends pointed message to her family after sister Jamie Lynn’s Christmas post
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears shared a pointed message about family on Instagram, shortly after her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears posted a group Christmas photo that reignited scrutiny around the pop star’s strained family dynamics.
The singer posted an image of a decorated Christmas tree to her Instagram, pairing it with a pointed caption that appeared to carry deeper meaning amid ongoing tensions.
"Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix," the 'Toxic' singer wrote.
"To my dear sweet innocent family … so so sorry I was busy this Christmas but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon … I can’t wait," Britney added.
She concluded her caption with a note for Jamie Lynn's seven-year-old daughter Ivy, writing, ''Hello, beautiful Ivy … I just want to hold you, my love … Godspeed, friends."
While she did not name any relatives directly, the timing of the post, coming soon after Jamie Lynn posted a festive family photo on Instagram, sparked speculation.
Christmas celebrations unfold on different sides of the family
Britney Spears spent Christmas with her 19-year-old son Jayden James Federline, whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Meanwhile, other members of the Spears family shared glimpses of their own holiday celebrations on social media.
Jamie Lynn posted a Christmas photo featuring her children and family members, while actress and grandmother Lynne "Grandma" Spears was also seen spending time with her grandchildren. They were also joined by Britney's 20-year-old son, Sean Preston Federline.
A long history of strain within Britney Spears' family
Britney Spears’ complicated relationship with her family has played out publicly for years.
The pop star has previously spoken candidly about her complicated relationships with members of her family, addressing those emotions in her 2023 memoir 'The Woman in Me'.
In the book, Britney expressed empathy for her younger sister, Jamie Lynn, noting the challenges of growing up in her shadow and navigating life as a child of divorce.
She wrote that Jamie Lynn will always be her sister and emphasized her love for her and her family, adding that she is trying to approach their relationship with compassion rather than anger.
The 'Gimme More' crooner acknowledged that "this process has been difficult."
Jamie Lynn, for her part, said in a 2022 interview to People that she had ''only ever tried to be helpful'' regarding Britney’s conservatorship.
Britney also spent her birthday with her mother, Lynne, in 2023. At the time, People reported that while Britney still felt hurt and believed her mother could have done more to support her, Lynne was making a genuine effort to rebuild their relationship.
Meanwhile, her ex-husband Kevin shared in November that Britney had been in contact with their two sons following the release of his memoir, 'You Thought You Knew'.
Speaking on Talk Shop Live, Kevin said the boys deeply love their mother and always have, adding that he has consistently encouraged a strong connection between them, similar to the relationship he maintains with his own mother.
