On Friday, August 30, the 42-year-old pop star revealed that she’s working on a musical, not a biographical film, amid the buzz surrounding the upcoming movie based on her memoir, 'The Woman in Me.'

“The project I might be doing isn’t a biopic story… it’s a fictional musical where I play an extremely intelligent character!! It’s flattering to be in such good company like Jon Chu!!” Spears wrote in an Instagram post.

This post came amid speculation about the casting for her biopic, directed by Wicked's Jon Chu. Recently, Emma Roberts expressed her enthusiasm for playing Spears in the film, as per OK Magazine.

On Thursday, August 29, 'American Horror Story' actress Emma Roberts responded to rumors about her potential casting after Britney Spears' former assistant, Felicia Culotta, suggested Roberts would be a great fit.

Roberts excitedly remarked, "I was like, I love her assistant," and added, "It’s my true dream to play Britney Spears."

"I remember locking myself in my room, listening to In the Zone, and telling myself, 'I can't leave this room until I memorize every word,'" Emma Roberts shared. When asked if she still remembers the lyrics, she confirmed, "Oh yes!"

Roberts also revealed, "I sing Britney songs to my son during bath time all the time," referring to her 3-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund.

She joked, "I’m always like, 'God, he must think I’m so weird.' That’s some millennial parenting," she added with a laugh.
