NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: In the podcast episode aired on Wednesday, December 17, Candace Owens shared a surprising claim stemming from her viral meeting with Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk.
Her remarks centered on concerns about her personal safety during the meeting between the two.
Erika previously shared that she and Owens met for a 'private, in-person discussion' on Monday, December 15. The conversation was expected to focus on the conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk’s assassination that have been circulated by Owens.
Candace Owens reveals precautions she took to meet Erika Kirk
In the episode following what she described as a 4.5-hour conversation with Erika, Owens elaborated on her concerns about her safety during the meeting.
Owens explained that she entered the meeting uncertain about how it would unfold, saying, “Not know if they were going to be open. I didn't know what Erika's energy was going to be like if it was going to be more of an argument.”
She was also influenced by warnings and advice she received from people following the situation closely, noting, “If there was going to be legal threats, you guys were telling me not to drink water.”
Owens said those warnings led her to take unusual precautions, explaining, “So I didn't drink water while I brought my own water, but I didn't drink that water too.”
She further described the overall intensity of the encounter, emphasizing how overwhelming it felt in the moment, saying, “It was a lot. There's a lot going on. Okay, and the conversation.”
Expanding on the conversation, she said it started with Justin Strife, COO at TPUSA, sensibly saying, "What are we looking to accomplish here? What is the actual aim of this conversation?"
Owens explained what had caused their frustration, saying, “He was pretty clear, and Erika was very clear that they were sort of most upset with what I obviously said with a bit of a fever pitch. When I tweeted that it was a god-forsaken company and people should not give money to it.”
She acknowledged her own role in the tension, admitting, “And I have to own that. That's aggressive. That is actually aggressive in the retrospect. I was very frustrated and I don't know.”
Candace Owens and Erika Kirk's meeting
Owens stated that she remains unconvinced that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with aggravated murder, is solely responsible.
Robinson has been accused in the September 10 killing, and authorities have said that bullet casings at the scene were inscribed with internet and video game memes.
She suggested that Kirk was 'betrayed' by people close to him and claimed that state and federal law enforcement are covering up a larger crime.
According to Owens, Erika came to the meeting prepared to debunk claims, bringing phone records and arranging for Owens to speak with a lawyer about how the investigation would proceed through the courts.
Owens said, however, that Turning Point USA had no inside information on the investigation and no access to unseen evidence.
“With that in mind, I’m saying why is the public being gaslit on this?” Owens said, calling the evidence in the police affidavit 'fake and gay,' one of her catchphrases.
