BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: Liam Payne, a former member of One Direction, died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday, October 16. 

After the news of the singer's sudden death at 31 came to light, tributes started pouring in from A-listers like Charlie Puth, Paris Hilton, and Maisa Silva.  

Celebrities pay tribute to Liam Payne

Charlie Puth was among the first to pay tribute to Liam Payne. He took to his Instagram Stories to write, "I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone..."

In another story, he shared a video of himself with Payne writing, "I'm so upset right now. May he rest in peace."

EL James, the writer behind the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' series, expressed sorrow over the singer's sudden death on X (formerly Twitter). Payne teamed up with Rita Ora for a song on the soundtrack of the series' third film, 'Fifty Shades Freed', in 2018.

James wrote, "I am heartbroken to hear of the tragic passing of Liam Payne. I can barely believe it. Sincere condolences to his family. 💔"



 

German DJ Zedd, who collaborated with Payne on the 2017 single 'Get Low', expressed his condolences, writing, "RIP Liam... I can't believe this is real...absolutely heartbreaking."



 

In a different post, he expressed, "Life is short and fragile... You never know what people are going through. We live in times where being rude, divisive and mean is normal; sometimes even celebrated. It doesn't have to be this way. We should do our best to be kind, supportive and mindful."



 

'Mad Love' singer Mabel paid tribute to the late artist through her Instagram Stories, writing, "Liam for so many years I always knew I could call you for support and big brotherly advice but now you're gone..." 

She added, "My thoughts and prayers are with Liams family and friends during this time you'll be missed."

Silva, a Brazilian actress-singer, expressed her disbelief on X in Portuguese, the official language of Brazil. When translated to English the tribute reads, "My condolences to everyone who, like me, grew up listening to 1D and who cultivated so many good moments with their music. It's so sad that all of this :( doesn't seem real."



 

Hilton also took to X to write, "So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend."



 

Numerous former 'X-Factor' participants also offered their tributes. Jedward, the Irish music duo from Season 6, wrote, "RIP Liam Payne 💔 condolences to friends and family." 



 

According to People, none of Payne's One Direction bandmates have publicly reacted as of yet.

Police investigating circumstances surrounding Liam Payne's death

Police reportedly found Liam Payne's body following a response to an emergency call in the affluent Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. 

The 31-year-old gained worldwide recognition as a member of the boyband One Direction formed on 'X Factor' in 2010, along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik.

Earlier this month, Payne attended the concert of his former bandmate Horan in Argentina.

According to Buenos Aires police, officers at the scene initially responded to reports "of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol."

Upon their arrival at the hotel, officials were informed that a loud noise had been detected in an interior courtyard. Shortly after that, a body was found at the location. A police investigation is underway, as per the BBC.

Alberto Crescenti, the director of emergency medical services, informed the local media that Payne had sustained "serious injuries" and an autopsy will be conducted.
