Cheryl Hines reveals RFK Jr's tightened 24-hour security after Charlie Kirk’s shooting death
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cheryl Hines revealed that the shocking death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk had a profound emotional impact on her husband, Robert F Kennedy Jr, who has long faced heightened security threats himself.
Speaking on the Monday, October 27, episode of the 'Dedicated With Doug Brunt' podcast, the 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' star shared that the news of Kirk’s fatal shooting struck close to home for the former presidential candidate.
Cheryl Hines says RFK Jr was ‘really feeling the loss’ of Charlie Kirk
During the interview, host Doug Brunt asked, "Did you or Bobby have a particular reaction to that, because it must hit home for both of you, but maybe him in particular?"
“Bobby was really feeling the loss of Charlie, and I didn’t really know Charlie,” Cheryl Hines replied. “I’d only met him, and I think less so from a security standpoint, that just isn’t something that Bobby concerns himself enough with.”
Hines said she first learned of Kirk’s death while scrolling through her phone, the same way much of the public did. “We were talking right when it happened, calling each other, just like when President Trump was shot,” she recalled.
Host Doug Brunt noted that the Turning Point USA founder's death must have been particularly alarming for the HHS secretary, who faced several security scares during his 2024 presidential campaign.
RFK Jr’s 24-hour security detail and strict safety protocols
When asked if her husband had grown more cautious since the tragedy, Cheryl Hines responded that RFK Jr remains heavily protected. “He’s got 24-hour security… he has US Marshals,” she said, adding, “Outdoor events are really discouraged for that very reason. So there are security guidelines, there are hard lines that you don’t cross.”
The actress explained that she underwent security training herself during her husband’s presidential run. “That was interesting, too, when Bobby ran, because suddenly we had 24-hour security and I had to go through security training, which I found fascinating, interesting. I learned a lot,” Hines noted.
Offering a glimpse into the intense safety precautions, she shared, “If someone’s coming at you with a gun, you should go for their arm and try to move it away. Even if you get shot while doing it, they don’t have good aim because their arm is moving.”
Charlie Kirk’s shocking death and the suspect's apparent motive
Charlie Kirk died after he was shot in the neck on September 10 while speaking at his The American Comeback Tour event at Utah Valley University.
Authorities arrested Tyler Robinson after a 33-hour manhunt. He allegedly fired at Kirk from the roof of a nearby building. Prosecutors said they will be seeking the death penalty against Robinson.
In text messages obtained by investigators, Robinson appeared to justify the shooting to his romantic partner, a transgender individual named Lance Twiggs, writing, “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”
