KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: After the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl LIX defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, Travis Kelce found himself at the center of controversy—this time, for what fans are calling an "inexcusable" lack of effort toward his teammate Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs' dreams of an unprecedented three-peat were crushed in a 40-22 defeat, a scoreline that reflects how one-sided the game truly was, as per Daily Mail.

At one point, the Chiefs trailed 34-0, with Patrick Mahomes struggling against relentless pressure.

But amid Mahomes' bruising night—two interceptions, six sacks—one particular play late in the third quarter had fans turning their frustration toward Kelce.

In a highlight shared on Reddit, titled "Travis Kelce gives up on the play while Patrick Mahomes is running for his life," the star quarterback is seen scrambling around at the Eagles' 40-yard line, evading defenders in a desperate attempt to extend the play.

When Mahomes eventually surges forward for the first down, a flag is thrown, but more glaringly, Kelce remains rooted to the spot—failing to block Eagles linebacker Oren Burks, who promptly slams into the Chiefs quarterback

For fans, the visual was damning. The Super Bowl stage demands maximum effort, and Travis Kelce’s apparent disengagement did not sit well.

The Reddit post sparked a wave of criticism, as one Chiefs fan said, "And Kelce's man, who he probably could've blocked, proceeds to HAMMER Mahomes."

Someone else noted, "Probably the most egregious part of the whole play," while another added, "Throwing his hands up in frustration BEFORE THE PLAY IS EVEN OVER is inexcusable at any level in the NFL, its next level to see that in the Super Bowl from your supposed leader."

"Travis Kelce has become insufferable over the last few years. He’s spent a little too much time smelling his own farts. It’s been evident for a while now, glad to see him get brought down to earth a bit," one more wrote.

Another observed, "Dude thinks he is hot s**t," while one said, "Ole boy is washed. He doesn’t have that fire in his gut."

"Not to defend him but he clearly reacts to the holding flag being thrown and gives up because he knows that the play is already over," explained a person who didn't seem to agree with the other viewpoints.

Travis Kelce admits NFL grind is 'driving me crazy'

On the 'New Heights' podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother and former Eagles player, Jason Kelce, the Chiefs star opened up about the toll of playing deep into the postseason year after year.

"The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls, that means I'm playing an extra three games than everybody else in the entire league," Kelce said.

"That's a lot of wear and tear on your body and it's a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand, every challenge that you set up for yourself," the 35-year-old added.

He acknowledged that while the grind has made him better, it has also pushed him to his limits.

"It can be grueling, it can weigh on you. It can make you better [but] it can drive you crazy at the same time, and right now it's one of those things where it was kind of driving me crazy this year," he admitted.

Travis Kelce reflects on the harsh reality of aging in the NFL

"It happens when you kind of tail off towards the back nine of your career. When you feel yourself not have the success that you used to have, it's a tough pill to swallow," Travis Kelce shared.

And perhaps most painfully, he addressed his lack of impact on the biggest stage, saying, "And then on top of that to not be there in the biggest moments, knowing your team's counting on you man… it’s just a tough reality."

"I'm gonna take some time to figure it out," Kelce said. "And I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, that it's gonna be a wholehearted decision and I'm not half-a**ing it, and I'm fully here for them."

He left the door open for a return, but only if he’s mentally ready, noting, "I think I can play, it's just whether or not I'm motivated or it's the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility."
