WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced that Democrats will force a vote on a War Powers Resolution next week to officially end the Iran war.

The announcement came along with Schumer’s harsh criticism of President Donald Trump’s strategic handling of the war, during which he labeled the president a “military moron.”

Chuck Schumer to push fourth War Powers vote to halt Iran war

During a press event in New York City on Wednesday, April 8, Schumer argued that the operation against Iran is "one of the very worst military and foreign policy actions that the United States has ever taken."

The Democrat stressed that “Congress must reassert its authority, especially at this dangerous moment,” signaling that the resolution is designed to prevent the president from ordering any further strikes.

This upcoming move marks “the fourth time we’ve forced a War Powers vote,” according to Schumer, who urged his Republican colleagues to break ranks and “join Democrats in voting to end this war once and for all” as "our country is worse off because of Trump’s strategic ineptitude."

He insisted that “enough is enough,” and that the only way forward is to “pass the War Powers Resolution, end the war.”

Furthermore, Schumer also presented a grim list of consequences resulting from the 39-day conflict, arguing the US is “worse off today” than it was before the initial strikes.

He highlighted that American soldiers have died, gas prices have climbed to $4 a gallon, and the military operation has already cost taxpayers $44 billion.

Despite this high cost, Schumer noted that Iran still has a nuclear stockpile and has “gained domination over the Strait of Hormuz.”

Describing the situation, the Senate minority leader reiterated that Trump acted as a “military moron” whose “strategic ineptitude” has damaged American global credibility.

Chuck Schumer warns if Trump restarts Iran war the US 'will be in even worse shape'

The call for another vote follows a tense period during which the president threatened attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure and the end of the nation's civilization, drawing international criticism and calls for his removal under the 25th Amendment.

While a two-week ceasefire has been announced, Schumer dismissed the administration's claim of victory, suggesting the president was “desperately searching for any sort of exit ramp from his ridiculous bluster.”

He warned that the country remains in a fragile position and that the danger could return at any moment, stating, “And if he restarts this war we will be in even worse shape.”

Schumer concluded that the nation cannot afford more uncertainty, stating, “We must pass our War Powers Resolution to end this war for good.”
