CHAPPAQUA, NEW YORK: Former President Bill Clinton said he has no information suggesting President Donald Trump engaged in wrongdoing connected to Jeffrey Epstein, according to House Oversight Committee James Comer.
Comer disclosed the exchange on Friday, February 27, while speaking to reporters outside the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center during a break in Clinton’s closed-door deposition. The testimony is part of an ongoing congressional investigation examining past associations tied to Epstein.
Clinton tells panel Trump never indicated Epstein involvement
Addressing questions from the media, Comer said there has been significant public interest in whether Trump would be called to testify. He described a moment inside the deposition that he said stood out.
According to Comer, the committee’s top Democrat, Rep Robert Garcia, asked Clinton whether Trump should appear before the committee.
Clinton responded that the decision rests with lawmakers. “That’s for you to decide,” he said, according to Comer. However, the former president also offered his own perspective.
“The president went on to say that President Trump has never said anything to me to make me think he was involved,” Comer told reporters, clarifying that Clinton was referring to involvement with Epstein.
Comer described the remark as notable, given ongoing debate about which figures should be summoned as part of the probe.
Bill Clinton says he did nothing wrong
The deposition followed a separate session earlier in the week with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Lawmakers have indicated that transcripts and video recordings from both depositions are expected to be released in the coming days.
In prepared opening remarks that have already been made public, Clinton addressed his own past interactions with Epstein and rejected allegations of wrongdoing.
“I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing,” Clinton said in the statement. He emphasized that decades-old photographs do not reflect any misconduct on his part.
“I know what I saw and, more importantly, what I didn’t see. I know what I did and, more importantly, what I didn’t do. I saw nothing and I did nothing wrong,” he added.
The proceedings are taking place in Westchester County, New York, near the Clintons’ longtime residence in Chappaqua. Lawmakers from both parties have signaled that additional witnesses could be called as the investigation moves forward.
