'Cringe theatre': Nikki Haley mocked as she fails to explicitly deny possibility of being Trump's VP
LEBANON, NEW HAMPSHIRE: As Donald Trump asserts his dominance in the Republican primary polls for the 2024 presidential election, speculation has intensified over who will be his pick for Vice President should he emerge victorious.
Some recent reports suggested that the former President was seeking the opinions of his allies on choosing Nikki Haley. Adding to the buzz, Haley is also not ready to reject the idea of becoming his VP outright.
On Thursday, December 28, in Lebanon, the final stop of her three town halls in New Hampshire, the former South Carolina Governor failed to explicitly deny the possibility in response to a community member's question. Instead of an outright no, she went silent for a few seconds, finally stating, "I don't play for a second. I've never played for second." The video clip was shared by Acyn, senior digital editor of online news network Meidas Touch on his X account.
The possibility of Haley as the VP candidate was not well received by many of Trump's supporters, including his son, Donald Trump Jr, who vowed to "go to great lengths" to stop any such development in an interview with NewsMax. Similarly, former talk show host Tucker Carlson said he would actively "advocate against it."
Nikki Haley's ambiguous response regarding VP position
During the town hall, a voter put forth the question of her chances of being Trump's VP, saying, "This is a chance to redeem yourself after last night's slavery thing."
However, the former UN Ambassador had a vague reply. "I could say to you what you wanna hear, and you could go check that box and go do whatever. But I'm gonna continue to tell you my truth... I've always told the truth," she said.

Her ambiguous reply took a turn as she pointed out she was always truthful even when she was a part of the Trump administration. "President Trump and I worked well together. Why? Because I told him the truth," she claimed.
The response from the White House hopeful did little to salvage her reputation from the Civil War controversy. Many, including 'The View' hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro, ridiculed her for the remarks, with the latter pointing out it was 'not a hard question'.

Internet claims Nikki Haley is confirming her VP position
Haley, who is so close to ending up in second position behind Trump, according to opinion polls analyses by FiveThirtyEight, has refused to comment on the former President's legal cases in her campaigns and interviews. She even declared her willingness to pardon the former President during the December 27 Berkin town hall meeting.
In addition, being unclear replies regarding being Trump's running mate have led the internet to claim that she is vying for it. While one group of netizens says she is ruining her chances with her remarks, others think she does want to hold the second-highest office after all.

"She never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity," read a fourth response. Someone else reacted, "Ironically, her Civil War comments and her response to being asked if she'd consider being VP is ruining her VP chances."
