WASHINGTON, DC: Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor, has openly celebrated his newfound freedom from "corporate overlords."

Lemon expressed his excitement about being able to formally support Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November election.

Don Lemon criticizes Donald Trump for Project 2025

Don Lemon’s departure from CNN last year has allowed him to be more vocal about his political loyalties, Fox News noted.

During a 'Black Men for Harris' virtual meeting, Lemon shared his thoughts on his current independent status.

"I’m happy to be in an independent space where I don’t have to worry about corporate overlords now, where I can stand up for democracy, where I can say who I’m supporting. I’m on the side of democracy," Lemon said.

"I’m on the side of someone who is going to help our people, I’m not on the side of Project 2025," he continued.

"I’m not going to pretend to put these two campaigns on equal footing. We have heard enough about Donald Trump. We’ve heard enough about MAGA," added Lemon.

Lemon suggested that Trump's supporters receive too much media coverage. "People need to understand Black people in this election, because that's who's going to decide this election," he said.

Don Lemon blasted Donald Trump on CNN

While at CNN, Don Lemon never shied away from expressing his opinion on former president Trump and his supporters.

He compared Trump's supporters to Ku Klux Klan members and even laughed as a guest referred to Trump’s base as the "credulous boomer rube demo," the publication noted.

In 2019, Lemon compared Trump to Adolf Hitler, arguing that such "bad people" shouldn't be given a platform.

In 2021, Lemon declared, "If you voted for Trump, you voted for the person who the Klan supported. You voted for the person who Nazis support."

He lost his prized solo primetime job in 2022 and was replaced with an ensemble morning program that failed to draw viewers.

Lemon had been working at CNN for 17 years before he was dismissed in 2023 following a string of embarrassing moments and controversies by then-CEO Chris Licht. That same year, Licht was also shown the door.

Internet reacts to Don Lemon's support for Democrats

Don Lemon’s support for pro-Harris campaign on social media posts have sparked reactions online. Many echoed he would have still suported her if he continued to be a CNN host.

"So, nothing has changed except his paycheck," wrote one user on X. One criticized his language suggesting, Like he didn't support democrats while on CNN."

Another commented, "He never hid his support for the Democratic Party!," wrote another. One more wrote, "That will cause her to sink in the polls!"

One more user wrote, "As if he wouldn't have dedicated his entire life to supporting her even if he was still at CNN. How stupid."

Another added, "What a moron. He never hid his support for the Democratic Party!"
