WASHINGTON, DC: GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday, August 17, once again decried two gold medalist Olympic athletes and falsely labeled the female boxers as "men".

Trump has often slammed transgenders during his campaign. His rhetoric about gender identity has been denounced by LGBTQ+ advocates as wrong and harmful, according to ABC News.

Republicans have also spoken against transgender participation in sports.

While speaking during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump pledged to "keep men out of women's sports" and turned his attention to the 2024 Olympic Games where two athletes became the subject of international scrutiny for misconceptions about their gender.

Both Imane Khelif of Algeria and Li Yu-ting of Taiwan have faced misconceptions about their gender caused by the fallout from the Olympic-banished International Boxing Association’s decision in 2023 to disqualify both fighters from the world championships for allegedly failing an eligibility test.

Trump did not specifically mention the athletes by name but said that "in the Olympics, they had two transitioned". He added, "They were men. They transitioned to women, and they were in the boxing."

Notably, Trump and other prominent figures have complained about Khelif being allowed to compete and the ex-POTUS had earlier referred to Khelif as a man.

Moreover, Khelif's attorney said that Trump's false statements about Khelif's gender will be included in the investigation behind the online harassment suit Khelif filed last week, according to Newsweek.

The harassment lawsuit alleges an "aggravated cyber-harassment" against Khelif, as per a statement from the boxer's lawyer, Nabil Boudi.
