PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Federal prosecutors have unveiled new photos depicting the chaotic manner in which former president Donald Trump stored boxes of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

The release of these images has ignited a wave of outrage and added fuel to the already contentious legal battle over Trump’s handling of sensitive national secrets, as reported by The New Republic.

The photos, presented as part of a federal filing, show documents spilling onto the floor and mixed with items like clothing and newspapers. These visuals were released in response to Trump's recent motion to dismiss his case, which argued that FBI agents had destroyed "exculpatory evidence" by failing to maintain the original order of the documents.

In their filing, prosecutors led by Special Counsel Jack Smith argued that Trump’s motion to dismiss should be denied without a hearing, citing the disorderly state of the boxes as evidence.

"Against this backdrop of the haphazard manner in which Trump chose to maintain his boxes, he now claims that the precise order of the items within the boxes when they left the White House was critical to his defense," the prosecutors wrote.

Moreover, they countered Trump’s claim that the original order of the documents was crucial, stating that federal agents had preserved the "box-to-box integrity" of the evidence during their search.

"The FBI agents who conducted the search did so professionally, thoroughly, and carefully under challenging circumstances," they noted, emphasizing the cluttered condition of the boxes and the significant volume of highly classified documents.

Trump faces 40 federal criminal charges related to his alleged retention of classified documents after his presidency ended, and his efforts to withhold these documents from federal authorities.

While his trial was initially scheduled for May 20, it has been indefinitely postponed by US District Judge Aileen Cannon, who also introduced numerous new pretrial proceedings.

Judge Cannon presided over two critical hearings in her Fort Pierce, Florida, courtroom, addressing separate motions from the defense and the special counsel. One motion sought to dismiss the case by questioning the constitutionality of Smith's appointment as special prosecutor, while the other involved a request for a gag order on Trump.
