ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND: Former President Donald Trump has announced his endorsement of former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan's Senate campaign, ending a period of speculation following a history of discord between the two, according to Axios.

In a surprising turn of events, the MAGA strongman expressed his support for the moderate Republican on Fox News, especially after Hogan urged voters to respect the jury's guilty verdict in the New York hush money criminal case against Trump.

The 2024 presumptive GOP nominee said when asked about Hogan, "I'd like to see him win. I think he has a good chance to win… I know other people made some strong statements, but I can just say from my standpoint, I'm about the party and I'm about the country. And I would like to see him win."

How did Larry Hogan’s campaign react to former President’s endorsement of the ex-GOP governor?

Previously, Donald Trump's co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita derided Larry Hogan after he posted on X asking Americans to respect the legal process, minutes before a 12-person Manhattan jury unanimously found the former president guilty of 34 felony charges.

"You just ended your campaign," LaCivita told Hogan on X after the Maryland Republican refused to stand up for the convicted former POTUS.



 

Former President Donald Trump's endorsement of Larry Hogan, a Republican candidate for Maryland's open Senate seat, is unique considering Trump's general lack of support for candidates who do not align with him.

Hogan's policy platform markedly differs from Trump's, as evidenced by Hogan's disavowal of Trump during an event earlier this year where he stated that he would not be voting for Trump in November.

Additionally, Hogan has adjusted his stance on abortion rights, now identifying as "pro-life" and open to a "bipartisan compromise to restore Roe," a departure from his previous reluctance to confirm support for legislation codifying Roe into federal law.

Hogan has expressed confidence in his campaign, highlighting Maryland as a top pick-up option for National Republicans, with full support from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

However, Larry Hogan's campaign team emphasized the GOP Senate candidate’s disapproval of former President Trump in their statement, which read, "Governor Hogan has been clear he is not supporting Donald Trump just as he didn't in 2016 and 2020."

Nevertheless, Hogan faces a significant challenge against Democratic candidate Angela Alsobrooks in what is deemed a crucial seat for Democrats in the upcoming November elections.
