GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN: Former President Donald Trump said that the lives of 'smart people' like Elon Musk should be improved after the tech mogul reportedly pledged $45 million a month for the Republican campaign. Speaking at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, July 20, the GOP presidential nominee showered praises on the SpaceX CEO who fully endorsed him after the assassination attempt a week ago.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Musk would make a whopping monthly donation to a pro-Trump America PAC along with other tech tycoons. However, the business magnate seemingly denied the report in an X post by sharing the WSJ report with a "FAKE GNUS" meme.

Trump says he didn't know about Elon Musk's $45M a month donation

Declaring he "loves" Musk, Trump said to a cheering crowd, "We have to make life good for our smart people, you know? We have some smart people. We have to make life good for our smart people."

Tesla CEO Elon Musk leaves the Phillip Burton Federal Building on January 24, 2023 in San Francisco, California. Musk testified at a trial regarding a lawsuit that has investors suing Tesla and Musk over his August 2018 tweets saying he was taking Tesla private with funding that he had secured. The tweet was found to be false and cost shareholders billions of dollars when Tesla's stock price began to fluctuate wildly allegedly based on the tweet.

"And he's as smart as you get," the 45th president said about the tech giant, adding he did not know about his massive donation. "I didn't even know this, he didn't even tell me about it, but he gives me $45 million a month," Trump continued. The real estate mogul added Musk did not mention the contribution when they talked a while ago.

Musk, who voted for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, turned into an outspoken critic of the incumbent since then and became a staunch backer of the former president's return to the White House in November.

Following Trump's narrow escape from a potentially fatal bullet at the Pennsylvania rally on July 13, the Tesla CEO took to his X platform, likening the MAGA spearhead to former president Theodore Roosevelt. "Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt," he wrote.
