WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump's long-standing fixation with pop sensation Taylor Swift's political leanings has once again taken center stage, the Raw Story reported.

During a recent meeting with Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill, Trump's comments about the global superstar's potential endorsement in the upcoming presidential election have ignited a firestorm of reactions across social media platforms.

A recent book by Variety editor Ramin Setoodeh titled 'Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass' sheds light on Trump's surprise at Swift's liberal views.

"She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal," Trump reportedly told Setoodeh during an interview.

Despite his political confusion, Trump couldn't help but praise Swift's star power and appearance.

"She’s got a great star quality. She really does. I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!" he said.

Swift, who transitioned from country music to pop with her 2014 album, has been open about her political views.

In her 2020 documentary 'Miss Americana', she explained her reluctance to speak out during the 2016 presidential election, stating, "Back in the [2016] presidential election, I was in such a horrendous place that I wasn’t going to pop my head out... I need to be on the right side of history."

Swift's political journey saw her endorsing Democratic candidates in Tennessee in 2018 and later supporting Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. This public stance has clearly irked Trump, who questioned her decision to back Biden during a recent meeting at the Capitol Hill Club with Republican lawmakers.

"Why would she endorse this dope? He doesn’t even know how to get off the stage," Trump reportedly said, according to CNN Capitol Hill reporter Melanie Zanona and other media outlets.

His comments come after a series of remarks where Trump credited himself for Swift's financial success, citing the Music Modernization Act.

"I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists. Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will," Trump wrote on Truth Social in February.
