WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump faced people’s wrath online after he reportedly claimed his possible house arrest following the guilty verdict in his hush money trial would leave people of the US devastated.

According to The Hill, the former president told Fox News’s Will Cain, Pete Hegseth, and Rachel Campos-Duffy, “I’m not sure the public would stand for it.”

Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 presidential election. Donald Trump claims people will reach ‘breaking point’ if he gets house arrest

Donald Trump further said, “I think it’d be tough for the public to take. At a certain point, there’s a breaking point.”

This came after on May 30, Trump was found guilty of all 34 charges he faced in the hush money trial after it was proved he forged his business records and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election to shut her mouth regarding their sexual encounter

Following the conviction, he slammed the trial, the judge as well as the Biden administration.

He reportedly said, “I did absolutely nothing wrong, I mean, absolutely. Think of it, you know, I hate when they say bookkeeping, this and that. It’s not. It’s called, think of it, expense.”

“I used the word expense, legal expense. I pay a lawyer — he wasn’t a fixer. He was a lawyer at the time. I pay a lawyer. And he’s a lawyer. It’s called a legal expense,” the Republican leader asserted at the time, which was criticized by Biden.

Joe Biden slammed Donald Trump

Responding to the statement, Joe Biden reportedly stated, “Donald Trump was given every opportunity to defend himself, it was a state case, not a federal case and it was heard by a jury of 12 citizens, 12 Americans, 12 people like you.”

“There was a process that Donald Trump's attorney was part of, the jury heard five weeks of evidence - five weeks - and after careful deliberation, the jury reached a unanimous verdict. They found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts,” he insisted.

Biden added, “And it's reckless, it's dangerous, it's irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged, just because they don't like the verdict.”

Netizens demand longer jail term for Trump

Meanwhile, people on the internet have also called out Donald Trump over his recent remarks.

An X user tweeted, “Trump says potential house arrest in hush money conviction would be ‘tough for the public to take’. You got that right, #DopeyDon. ONLY jail time will do. Anything short of jail time and the public will be infuriated.”

Another user wrote, “Read ‘Trump says potential house arrest in hush money conviction would be ‘tough for the public to take’ judge lock him up in prison. House arrest is an alternative added to a short prison term. Don't let this con man criminal off easy hang him!!!!”

“May be tough for the public to take...but would accept that much more then if he actually goes into jail,” one person commented.

Another added, “It'd be tough for Melania to take.”

One user stated, “Not in any way, shape or form would it be tough 👍🩵.”

“I’m a part of the ‘public’ and I could TAKE IT just fine!!  LMFAO!!! Lock him up!!!!!” another wrote.

One individual said, “You know, growing up, we always heard things like ‘you do the crime, you do the time’. So no... I don't think ‘the public’ will have difficulty with it. I think it's about time the criminal element in politics is held to the same standard as the public, regardless of party.”
