PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: GOP firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene found herself embroiled in a heated exchange with BBC journalist Emily Maitlis during an event at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Super Tuesday.

The confrontation reached a boiling point when Maitlis asked Greene about her previous remarks regarding "Jewish space lasers."

Escalation over 'Jewish space lasers'

Greene, known for her outspoken views and embrace of conspiracy theories, initially engaged in a civil discussion with Maitlis until the conversation took a contentious turn, the New York Post reported.

When questioned about her support for conspiracy theories, Greene fired back. “Well, let me tell you, you’re a conspiracy theorist, and the left and the media spread more conspiracy theories,” she said. “We like the truth. We like supporting our Constitution, our freedoms, and America first.”

As mentioned, the confrontation escalated when Maitlis pressed Greene about her past comments regarding "Jewish space lasers," referencing a now-deleted 2018 Facebook post where Greene speculated about the involvement of Jewish people in a California wildfire.

“What about Jewish space lasers? Tell us about Jewish space lasers," Maitlis asked.

“No,” Greene quickly retorted. “Why don’t you talk about Jewish space lasers? Why don’t you f**k off? How about that? Thanks.”

“Thank you very much,” Maitlis said, as Greene walked away.

Maitlis, a seasoned journalist known for her tough interviews, has a history of confronting public figures on sensitive issues. Notably, she famously questioned Prince Andrew about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019.

During the aforementioned exchange, Greene also discussed Republican efforts to encourage Nikki Haley to drop out of the presidential race in favor of supporting President Trump.

“Well, we’ve been encouraging her to drop out and support President Trump. And I think tonight is the clear message that President Trump is the clear front-runner. He’s the winner in our Republican primary. And it’s time for Nikki Haley to drop out and support him,” she said.

Greene was then asked about Trump's list of potential running mates. “Oh, you know, that’s the question everyone asks. And no, I don’t think Nikki Haley should be on the list, but of course, President Trump will choose who he wants for VP.”

“Would you like to be on that list?” Maitlis added.

Greene laughed before responding, “He’s got a long list. I support President Trump in any way, any way he’d ask me, but I can assure you it won’t be Nikki Haley.”

Social media backlash

Critics took to social media to condemn Greene's behavior, with some describing her conduct as disgraceful.

"What a truly dreadful seeming human. Good grief. America about to sink back into the sewer. Looks like it could be worse than before," one posted on X.

"These people belong in prison. Absolute shambles," another wrote.

"Lol why wouldn’t she explain the space lasers," someone else asked.

"Triggered by Jewish Space Lasers sounds like a 90s rave track," another quipped.

Nikki Haley suspends presidential campaign, Donald Trump responds

Haley officially suspended her 2024 Republican presidential campaign on Wednesday, announcing her decision to withdraw from the race during a speech at her campaign headquarters in Charleston, South Carolina.

"I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done it. I have no regrets. And although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for the things I believe in," she said.

While Haley did not immediately endorse Trump, she urged him to earn the support of those who did not initially back his candidacy. "It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him. And I hope he does that," she added. "This is now his time for choosing."

Trump, who emerged victorious in the majority of Super Tuesday primaries, took to social media to tout his success. "Nikki Haley got TROUNCED last night, in record setting fashion," the former president said, adding that he'd "like to invite all of the Haley supporters to join the greatest movement in the history of our Nation."

With the GOP nomination within reach, Trump prepares for a potential rematch with Biden in the upcoming general election in November.
