Drew Barrymore addresses awkward Martha Stewart moment during touchy interview: ‘She doesn’t dislike me’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drew Barrymore has finally opened up about the uncomfortable exchange she had with Martha Stewart when the businesswoman and TV personality came on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ in November 2024.
The ‘50 First Dates’ actress appeared on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’ on Wednesday, February 5, where she said, per Page Six, “You know what? I think she was just teasing,” referring to the moment when the 83-year-old pushed her away for being “too touchy".
Drew Barrymore says Martha Stewart ‘really does like’ her
Drew Barrymore continued, “I think the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it."
"I've never been able to say this before with confidence, but I can now, I think Martha really does like me," she said.
"When I was first getting to know her, I was like, ‘I don’t think she likes me.’ But I think I broke through … she doesn’t dislike me," added the 'Charlie's Angles' star, per The New York Post.
The 49-year-old actress went viral a few months ago when she asked the cookbook author what makes her feel “soft and gooey".
Stewart replied, “Soft and gooey treatment,” before Barrymore began touching her.
The businesswoman pushed her away saying, “You’re the wrong gender.”
Barrymore then added, “I know … although, the way it’s going with men, though, Martha, I’m not so sure anymore.”
The ‘ET the Extra-Terrestrial’ actress has often invited criticism for getting too close to guests on her talk show. She told Cohen the reason behind her being touchy, especially "pupil to pupil".
She mentioned, “I don’t know [why]. I can’t actually control it. I got focus-grouped when we launched, and it was not good. It was awful.”
Drew Barrymore confesses to Cynthia Erivo she's 'touchy'
This came after in December, Drew Barrymore confessed before Cynthia Erivo, “I’m so touchy! People have to warn me. They’re like, ‘Back off a little bit.’ I’m like, ‘Why?’” as per Page Six.
During the chat, Erivo also shared that her ‘Wicked’ co-star Ariana Grande is also touchy and she’s now gotten “used to” it.
The British actress shared, “If it’s not, like, connected, I’m like, ‘What’s wrong? What’s happening? Where are you?’ We walk hand in hand very often. Like, if we’re not walking hand in hand, we’ll find each other somewhere.”
“Sometimes you can’t say anything and you’re in a room and you’re like, it’s just a squeeze of a hand. And that sometimes is how she and I communicate. We might be talking to someone, or I might need to communicate something to her and it’s just a squeeze of a hand or a pinch of the finger. Or a hug,” she added.
