Elon Musk signals support for Trump, warns of the 'radical left' ahead of 2026 midterms
WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk appears to have re-entered the political arena, as reports say the Tesla CEO is once again backing Donald Trump ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. His latest post on X is being cited as confirmation that Musk has resumed funding Trump-aligned efforts, reinforcing reports that he is actively helping Republicans push for wins this year. Musk notably poured $290 million into Trump and GOP campaigns during the 2024 election cycle.

Elon Musk has indicated he is again financially backing Republican candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. He also issued a stark warning about a potential Democratic victory.
In a post on X on Thursday, the Tesla CEO wrote, “America is toast if the radical left wins." He added, "They will open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud.
Won’t be America anymore."
Musk shared the comment alongside a clip showing him nodding as Trump patted him on the arm during a recent White House event.
The accompanying post stated that Musk is 'reportedly going all-in funding Republicans to help President Trump take back full control in the November midterms.'
Axios reported in mid-December that Musk had 'recently cut big checks to help Republicans win congressional races next year,' a claim Musk appeared to confirm on New Year’s Day.
However, officials have not confirmed whether Musk will fund Republican campaigns, when he might start, or how much he plans to contribute.
Elon Musk and Trump's strained relationship in 2025
Elon Musk and President Trump have experienced a turbulent relationship over the course of 2025. Musk initially played a prominent role in Trump’s second term, leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after Trump took office last January.
At the time, the two appeared closely aligned, even sitting down together for a high-profile interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
The dynamic shifted in May 2025 when Musk stepped away from DOGE, a departure Trump marked by presenting him with a gold key to the White House. Praising Musk’s contributions, Trump said, “Elon gave an incredible service. There’s nobody like him, and he had to go through the slings and the arrows, which is a shame, because he’s an incredible patriot.”
Relations later deteriorated after Musk accused Trump of covering up files connected to convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein, an allegation that strained their ties for several months.
During that period, Musk briefly entertained the idea of launching his own political party. More recently, Musk told Katie Miller, the wife of Trump adviser Stephen Miller, that he regretted his involvement in DOGE, saying he would have focused instead on running his companies. “Instead of doing DOGE, I would have basically built, worked on my companies, essentially,” Musk said, adding that doing so might have avoided the backlash that included viral incidents of Teslas being vandalized and a dealership being attacked in Las Vegas.
The Musk-Trump relationship has warmed up again in recent months. They met at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, and Musk also attended a White House dinner for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in November.
According to The Washington Post, Vice President JD Vance helped bring Musk and Trump back together.
