NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Ethan Hawke has landed in hot water after his recent comments about President Donald Trump. The 'Dead Poets Society' actor appeared on 'The View' on Wednesday, October 22, where he criticized the Republican leader's “integrity” while discussing reports that he demanded $230 million from the Justice Department

Hawke remarked, “He wants that money,” taking a direct jab at the president. However, the internet didn’t take kindly to his remarks.

Social media users slammed Hawke for his comments, with many accusing him of overstepping and disrespecting Trump.

The 'Black Phone' star, 54, was invited by co-host Joy Behar to share his thoughts on Donald Trump’s apparent demand for hefty compensation linked to the investigations conducted while Democrats were in power.

Behar said, “Let’s do a hot topic with you, because earlier we were talking about Trump wanting $230 million from the Department of Justice (DOJ) for investigating him.” Without hesitation, Hawke responded, “He wants that money.”

The actor then went on to compare Trump to former President Jimmy Carter, saying, “Is anybody here old enough to remember when Jimmy Carter gave up his family farm to make sure he didn’t have a conflict of interest? It’s called integrity, and it’s starting to show the lack of it. It’s pretty obvious.” Hawke was referring to Carter's decision to place his peanut farm in a blind trust during his presidency.

Behar appeared surprised, replying, “Starting?” to which Hawke laughed and said, “Yeah, I’m being nice.”

Internet calls Ethan Hawke's remarks on Trump 'worthless'

Ethan Hawke’s remarks on 'The View' have stirred up quite a storm online. Many users took to social media to express their outrage, slamming the actor for criticizing the president on national television.

One X (formerly Twitter) user remarked, "Oh man, Ethan Hawke spouting off on The View like he's the oracle of integrity? Please, this guy's acting chops peaked in the '90s, now he's just hawking hot takes! Trump demanding $230M back from the DOJ? Hell yeah, he should! Those witch hunts were taxpayer-funded clown shows designed to bankrupt the big guy."

They continued, "Unlike Jimmy Carter, who 'gave up' his peanut empire but still tanked the economy with inflation hotter than a Georgia summer. Trump? He donated his entire presidential salary, built walls that actually worked, and made America energy independent again. Policies that put America first, not some virtue-signaling farm sale."

"Hawke, stick to scripts, 'cause your real-life rants are as convincing as a bad sequel. Trump’s the boss with real integrity – fighting for us, not fleecing us! 🇺🇸," the user concluded.

Another one wrote, "How confused and loopy is this guy?"

"Trump deserves to be reimbursed for all the bogus lawfare," a person insisted.

One more wrote, "Some people are not a fan of the federal government being used as an endless prosecutorial lawfare institution. Seems something needs to be done about it."

An individual sharply expressed, "Opinions from liberal Hollywood are as worthless as those from Democrat politicians. No wonder they like each other so much."

"He just showed his lack of intelligence," another tweet read.
