Excerpt from Prince Harry's memoir 'Spare' about Diddy draws renewed attention after rapper's arrest
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: An excerpt from Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir, 'Spare', has regained attention following the recent arrest of Sean "Diddy" Combs.
The hip-hop mogul, who was arrested in New York on Monday, September 16, faces serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, as per The Mirror.
Prince Harry recalls in memoir 'Spare' about inviting Diddy for Princess Diana's tribute concert
In 'Spare', Prince Harry reflected on organizing a tribute concert for his late mother, Princess Diana, in July 2007, alongside his older brother, Prince William.
The concert, held at London's Wembley Stadium, was intended to mark the tenth anniversary of Diana’s death and celebrate what would have been her 46th birthday.
In his memoir, the Duke of Sussex shared the emotional toll the event took on him and William, noting that they approached it with a businesslike demeanor.
"To mark the tenth anniversary of our mother’s death, Willy and I organized a concert in her honor. The proceeds would go to her favorite charities and to a new charity I’d just launched—Sentebale. While planning the concert, Willy and I were emotionless. All business. It’s the anniversary, we need to do this, there are a million details, full stop," wrote Harry in 'Spare'.
The concert featured an impressive lineup of A-list performers, including Elton John, Fergie, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Duran Duran, and Diddy, who had been personally booked by Harry and William.
Reflecting on the importance of the event, Harry wrote, "The venue had to be big enough (Wembley Stadium) and the tickets had to be priced right (forty-five pounds) and the entertainers had to be A-list (Elton John, Duran Duran, P Diddy)."
While the 2007 concert was meant to honor Princess Diana, Diddy’s name has now resurfaced in a much less flattering light. His recent legal troubles have added an unexpected twist to the passage from Harry's memoir.
Complicating matters further, Harry found himself mentioned in connection with a lawsuit filed against Diddy by music producer Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones.
Jones, who has filed a $30 million lawsuit, claims that the hip-hop mogul's association with prominent figures like Harry gave him an air of legitimacy. Although the father of two is mentioned in the legal documents, he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs 'holding up okay' but is deeply concerned about his children
Sean "Diddy" Combs' recent arrest in New York comes after Homeland Security conducted raids on his homes in Miami and Beverly Hills back in March. Authorities reportedly found weapons, drugs, and evidence of notorious "freak off" parties at his residences.
The rapper, who pled not guilty to all the charges, was denied bail twice and is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
The allegations against him are grave, and his legal team is working to address the situation as the case unfolds. Meanwhile, TMZ reports that Diddy is "holding up okay" but is deeply concerned about his children.
"He is desperate to speak to his children," told a source close to Diddy’s family to TMZ.
The rapper has seven children, including Quincy (whom he adopted during his relationship with the late Kim Porter), Justin, Christian "King," Chance, twins D'Lila and Jessie, and Love.
His family, especially his children, are said to be leaning on each other for support and turning to faith as they cope with the arrest and its fallout.
