OREM, UTAH: After Charlie Kirk’s tragic death from a gunshot wound to the neck on September 10, a rumor has taken social media by storm.

According to the claim, Kirk once helped a transgender man change a flat tire, despite the man having publicly opposed him during a Phoenix rally.

The story quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussion online. Many users expressed disbelief, especially given Kirk’s well-known rhetoric on transgender rights.

What is the claim involving Charlie Kirk after his death?

On September 22, Facebook user Cliff Sims shared a compelling story about a rumored encounter between Charlie Kirk and a transgender man. Notably, the post did not identify the man by name or provide any specific date, time, or location for the event.

According to the post, "After a rally in Phoenix, a transgender man had stood at the mic, harshly criticizing Charlie Kirk. The exchange was sharp, the air tense, and the critic walked away feeling victorious."

It added, "Hours later, fate intervened. On a dark highway, their car broke down, a shredded tire, steam rising from the hood, and no help in sight."

The post continued, "Then headlights slowed. Out stepped Charlie Kirk and his companions. He didn't mention the rally, didn't recall the insults. He simply asked what was wrong, rolled up his sleeves, and helped. Together they replaced the tire, cooled the engine, and made sure the driver could get home safe."

“No smug remark, no lecture,” the post emphasized. “Just kindness on a quiet road.”

Weeks later, the man allegedly reached out with a message, “I was the one who insulted you at the rally. I never imagined you’d stop and help me. You didn’t just fix my car—you shattered my assumptions. You showed me what character really is," according to the post.

The post concluded, “True strength isn't proven in arguments or applause. It's revealed when no one is watching, when compassion outweighs ego. Helping those who once opposed you isn't weakness, it's courage. And in a divided world, those quiet acts of mercy echo the loudest. #charliekirk”

Underneath the post, a commenter asked Sims for a source. Sims responded, "I picked this up from a friend who wishes to remain anonymous who works for TPUSA, but there is a source which may originate with an Instagram link called bizminworks that supposedly goes back 6 months ago."

He added, "That's all I have. I met Charlie 4 years ago at the National Religious Broadcaster Convention which was held in Grapevine, Texas. This story sounds exactly like the man I met. He was gracious, unassuming, and genuine."

The post added fuel to the growing online rumor, further intensifying speculation.

False, Charlie Kirk did not help a transgender man

When efforts were made to verify the viral rumor claiming that Charlie Kirk once helped a transgender man change a tire, no credible evidence supported it. Searches across major engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo revealed no legitimate news reports or official accounts of the incident.

No authenticated sources have confirmed the story’s accuracy. In addition, several websites, though sometimes unreliable, that claim to detect AI-generated content reported that a user may have created some or all of the story using an AI tool. The story’s closing paragraph, which speaks of “quiet acts of mercy [echoing] the loudest,” reflects the kind of inspirational language commonly found in AI-generated narratives.

With no supporting evidence and strong signs of artificial creation, fact-checkers determined the claim to be a case of false attribution.

Charlie Kirk is known for opposing transgender rights

While the rumor has been deemed false, it’s important to note Charlie Kirk’s documented history of opposing transgender rights. Kirk and his organization, Turning Point USA, have actively campaigned against transgender healthcare and have sponsored rallies opposing gender-affirming medical treatments.

In April 2024, Kirk compared doctors who provide gender-affirming care to Nazis, claiming they were committing atrocities.

“One issue I think that is so against our senses, so against the natural law and dare I say a throbbing middle finger to God, is the transgender thing happening in America right now,” he said in a speech shared in 2023 by Right Wing Watch.

In that same speech, he referenced a Bible verse that describes a woman wearing men’s clothing, or a man wearing women’s clothing, as an “abomination.”

Kirk has also made inflammatory remarks about LGBTQ+ rights more broadly.
