WASHINGTON, DC: A viral social media post has sparked speculation by claiming that President Donald Trump shared a picture of Sen Lindsey Graham holding an apology banner. The purported screenshot has been widely circulated as breaking news, prompting users to question whether the post is real and whether Trump actually shared it.

Claim: Trump shared a picture of Lindsey Graham holding an apology banner

This rumor originated from a post shared by GBC_Press on X, which presented as breaking news and claimed that Donald Trump had posted a photo of Lindsey Graham holding a banner reading, "I'm so sorry."

The post also showed a screenshot featuring the caption "So sad!!! President DJT" alongside an image of Graham smiling while wearing a "Make Iran Great Again" hat and holding a document naming Trump the "2028 President of Venezuela" with JD Vance as vice president.

The meme gained traction following Graham's death on July 11, 2026. It resurfaced discussions about his sharp criticism of Trump during the 2015 and 2016 Republican primary campaign. Over the following years, however, Graham became one of Trump's closest allies in the Senate, a political shift that has frequently been the subject of memes and commentary.

Following Graham's death, Trump's public tributes and renewed calls to advance legislation associated with Graham, including the SAVE Act, prompted discussions about their political relationship.

Fact Check: False

The claim is false. There is no evidence that Donald Trump shared a photo of Lindsey Graham holding an apology banner. A review of Trump's official social media accounts found no post matching the viral claim or the purported screenshot.

The image circulating online is taken from a satirical political meme, not an authentic post from Trump. It shows Graham holding a fabricated "official ballot" declaring Trump the "2028 President of Venezuela" with JD Vance as vice president, alongside the caption "So sad!!! President DJT." The meme does not contain the words "I'm so sorry," contradicting the caption used in posts spreading the rumor.

The paper Graham appears to be holding is also not an apology banner or tribute sign. Instead, it is an intentionally absurd, digitally created graphic designed for political satire. By pairing the meme with a misleading caption, accounts such as GBC_Press falsely presented it as breaking news and gave the impression that Trump had shared a real post mourning Graham.

The rumor began circulating shortly after Graham's death on July 11, 2026, when social media was flooded with tributes, commentary, and political memes about his decades-long relationship with Trump.

During that period, several edited images and fabricated screenshots also spread online, making it easier for users to mistake satirical content for authentic posts. However, there is no credible evidence that Trump ever posted the image or the message attributed to him.
