LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Billie Eilish won the prestigious Best Original Song award at the 2024 Golden Globes for her track 'What Was I Made For?', featured in the 'Barbie' soundtrack.

The song, a highlight of the film's official soundtrack since its release in July, 2023, stands nominated for Best Original Song at the 2024 Oscars.

Billie Eilish's global impact

The Internet rejoiced, hailing Billie Eilish's win as a milestone achievement.

Her song's recognition at the Golden Globes, coupled with the recent Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs Film Festival, solidifies Eilish's artistic prowess and impact on audiences worldwide.

Eilish's victory prevailed over other 'Barbie' soundtrack entries, triumphing against Dua Lipa’s 'Dance The Night' and Ryan Gosling’s 'I’m Just Ken,' along with songs by Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, and more.

Billie Eilish's compassionate acceptance speech

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Eilish dedicated the award and any accolades garnered by the song to those grappling with feelings of hopelessness and existential questions.

She empathized, saying, "I just want to dedicate to anyone who experiences hopelessness, the feeling of existential dread and feeling like, what’s the point, why am I here and why am I doing this?"

Acknowledging her own struggles, she shared, "I think if somebody like me, with the amount of privilege that I have and the incredible things that I get to do and be and how I have really not wanted to be here...sorry to be dark, damn, but I’ve spent a lot of time feeling that way."

Reflecting on her creation, Eilish acclaimed 'What Was I Made For?' as one of her vocally standout performances, stating, "I believe the song features one of my best vocal performances I’ve ever given."
