Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan set to launch his independent media company Zeteo
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan is set to make waves in the media landscape with the launch of his new venture, Zeteo, catering specifically to the progressive left.
According to The Hill, The name, derived from the ancient Greek word for seeking out and striving, reflects Hasan's vision for the media organization.
Zeteo: A platform for truth and progressive perspectives
Described as a platform that "seeks answers for the questions that really matter while always striving for the truth," Zeteo is poised to provide an alternative perspective in the evolving media landscape.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Hasan revealed that he has successfully secured $4 million in funding for the venture. He outlined plans to diversify the content offerings on Zeteo, including hosting a streaming show, publishing podcasts, and producing written pieces.
The business model involves a subscription-based approach, with Hasan aiming to charge $6 per month through yearly subscriptions.
"This is one of the biggest news of our lives, and that’s why I wanted to do something like this," Hasan expressed to The Washington Post.
Despite acknowledging the risk and admitting his lack of prior experience in entrepreneurship, he emphasized his confidence in the project, stating, "It’s a huge gamble. But if I wasn’t confident, I wouldn’t be doing this."
On Twitter, he wrote, "Some personal & professional news: I'm launching a new media company! It's called Zeteo. And, in this era of war abroad, fascism at home, and propaganda everywhere, I hope I can count on your support."

Mehdi Hasan's journey beyond MSNBC
Zeteo's launch follows MSNBC's decision to cancel Hasan's weekend prime-time show last year. Although the network extended an offer for Hasan to remain as a paid contributor, he chose to decline the opportunity.
Undeterred, Hasan has also recently joined The Guardian as a regular columnist, demonstrating his commitment to contributing to progressive discourse across multiple platforms.
Mehdi Hasan's move to launch his own media company aligns with a broader trend among former cable news pundits.
Tucker Carlson, formerly of Fox News, initiated the Tucker Carlson Network last year, while former CNN anchor Don Lemon is gearing up to launch a show on X (formerly known as Twitter) later this month.
