Gavin Newsom trolls Trump with dementia jibe as bitter feud hits new low

WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump’s Cabinet meeting turned into a roast of California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday, August 26, only for Newsom to clap back with a brutal swipe about dementia.

About 30 minutes into the meeting, Trump zeroed in on the Golden State governor, whom he’s long mocked as “Newscum," and recycled one of his favorite claims that the federal government had to force California to “turn on the water” after January’s devastating wildfires.

“They had no water in the fire hydrants. They had no water in the sprinkler systems that people put up in their ceilings. There was no water,” Trump alleged.

“So we sent hundreds of millions of gallons a day into the Pacific Ocean. They turn a valve. The valve heads out. We turned the valve back. I actually had to do it using force.”

Newsom wasted no time pouncing.

He reposted a clip of Trump’s tirade on X, but he got a sought help from AI instead of a straight rebuttal.

The governor shared a screenshot of a convo with Grok, the platform’s built-in AI chatbot. The question posed, “Do people with dementia repeat false things over and over again?”

Grok replied, “Yes, people with dementia can repeat false statements or beliefs, a behavior often linked to memory impairments and cognitive changes.

“This can manifest as confabulation, where they create or repeat false memories to fill gaps in recollection, or perseveration, where they fixate on a particular idea or statement,” the chatbot added.

Naturally, Team Trump didn’t take it lying down. A White House spokesperson told the Daily Beast, “Newscum will say anything to distract from his terrible handling of the California wildfires that President Trump had to come in and clean up.”

The president has been obsessed with California’s water supply, hammering his point ever since January. Back then, he claimed the US military marched into the state “under Emergency Powers [to turn] on the water.”

California officials refuted that claim. “The military did not enter California,” the Department of Water Resources said at the time. “The federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days.”

As for those hydrants that really did run dry during the Los Angeles inferno, city officials said the shortage was due to “tremendous demand” and not some water-policy conspiracy.

Still, Trump doubled down Tuesday. “I’m telling Gavin Newscum by this conversation right now: turn the rest of the water on. Turn it on," he insisted.

Trump's verbal gaffes in recent times

While Newsom gleefully leaned into Trump’s own insult-slinging style by pushing out all-caps X posts and hawking Trump-style merch, the 47th POTUS was busy handing out his own superlatives.

“The Republican Party is the party of common sense. We’re sharp,” Trump bragged at the Cabinet table.

But his memory didn’t exactly back that up. On Monday, he boasted about doing a favor for someone named “Kristi Whitmer," apparently a mash-up of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and maybe even former New Jersey Governor Christine Whitman.

That gaffe isn't the first of its kind of late. Trump recently referred to the Democratic Republic of the Congo as “the Republic of Condo,” called St Petersburg by its Soviet-era name of Leningrad, and mistook Noem for pro golfer Cristie Kerr.

Still, his loyal doctor-turned-congressman Ronny Jackson squashed any doubts, declaring Tuesday that Trump is “mentally and physically sharper than ever before.”
