Gwyneth Paltrow once admitted she wasn't surprised when ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez postponed their wedding

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In recent weeks, there have been numerous reports suggesting that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s marriage is on the rocks, with the couple currently residing in separate residences.

Affleck and Lopez initially got engaged in November 2002 and had plans to marry the following year. However, in September 2003, they announced a delay in their wedding plans, citing "excessive media attention," but in January 2004, JLo confirmed that they had parted ways.

After the news of the delay in the couple's wedding came to light, Affleck's ex-girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow, purportedly expressed her lack of surprise at the relationship's outcome, as per KoiMoi.

In an interview with ABC News, at the time, Paltrow apparently commented, "Ben makes life tough for himself. He’s got a lot of complications, and you know, he really is a great guy. So I hope he sorts himself out."

The Goop founder also disclosed that she never envisioned a future with Affleck, stating, "I just think we have a very different sort of value system."

Paltrow and Affleck dated on and off in the late 1990s after they met at a party hosted by the infamous Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

As per reports, the couple's relationship was met with disapproval from Paltrow's parents, which may have contributed to their eventual breakup in 1999. Despite parting ways romantically, they remained friends over the years.

Soon after, the 'Justice League' actor crossed paths with JLo on the set of 'Gigli' in 2002. The singer, who was still married to Cris Judd, initiated divorce proceedings in the same year.

After their 2004 breakup, the two rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in 2022.

On the other hand, Paltrow got into a relationship with Chris Martin after meeting him at a Coldplay concert in 2002. After separating from Martin in 2014, Paltrow married her now husband, Brad Falchuk, in 2018.

When questioned about the authenticity of the divorce rumors during a recent press conference for her Netflix film 'Atlas', Lopez chuckled briefly and replied, "You know better than that," as per E! News. 

Later, her co-star Simu Liu, who was present at the interview, interjected, saying, "C'mon, don't come in here with that."

On the flip side, Affleck has yet to publicly comment on the divorce speculations.

Multiple sources disclosed to PEOPLE Magazine that Affleck and Lopez's differing outlooks might have given birth to conflicts in their marriage.

"They just have very different approaches when it comes to media attention. Ben hates all attention and it makes him very uncomfortable. Jennifer has always had a different approach," revealed one insider.

A source from the film industry mentioned that the actor has long been impressed by JLo's work ethic and achievements. However, the person noted, "Always sharing her life is not his way."

They added, "Even though he admires that about her, it doesn’t make him happy and causes stress in his life and then in hers. There is no question their different styles clash."

Another source, hailing from the music industry, commented that Lopez "needs that expression but Affleck simply is not comfortable with it."

The tipster explained, "He is more introspective and private. She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world. This makes them considerably different, and it has been difficult in the day-to-day relationship."

However, they remarked, "There have always been clashes in their styles, how they handle issues, and their actions, but nothing has stopped their love over the years. This is a great love story."
