Harris scorches Trump on Iran, calls it a 'war of choice' from a man who 'acts like a mob boss'

Former VP Kamala Harris said President Donald Trump had claimed to 'obliterate' Iran's nuclear arsenal, but argued that was not the case

WASHINGTON, DC: Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, April 10, criticized President Donald Trump over his handling of the Iran conflict, calling it a “war of choice” during remarks at the National Action Network convention in New York.

Harris said she was “unequivocally opposed” to the war and raised concerns about its impact on US global standing.

Her comments also included a broader critique of Trump’s foreign policy approach. As she continued her criticism, her remarks, including a comparison of Trump to a “mob boss,” prompted mixed reactions online.

Kamala Harris warns of declining US influence under Trump

During a conversation with Rev Al Sharpton, Harris described the Iran conflict as unnecessary and questioned Trump’s previous claims about Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

“So he enters into this war, a war of choice,” Harris said. “Remember, the man said, the man said he got rid of their nuclear arsenal. Obliterated it, he said. You know how he likes to use those kind of words. Obliterated it, which is not an ambiguous term. That means you took it out. Well, evidently he didn't do that.”

She said Trump’s approach to foreign policy has strained US alliances and weakened its position globally.

“Let us understand, first of all, this president is the first president of the United States since World War II who does not believe in the alliances that we have with friendly nations, does not believe in the strength of them, the recognition of the history with them, and the importance that that relationship bears on our standing around the world, our influence around the world, not to mention our national security,” Harris said.

Harris added that the US is losing its global influence under Trump’s leadership and that restoring it would require “serious” effort.

She also accused the president of misleading the public on domestic issues, including the cost of living, as part of a broader critique of his administration.

'Mob boss' comparison draws mixed reaction online

As Harris continued her criticism of Trump’s foreign policy, she compared his approach to that of a “mob boss,” suggesting he views global relations in transactional terms.

“The way that he's thinking of foreign policy, it seems, is when he talks about America first, it's to withdraw from these relationships and these connections, and then he kind of acts like a mob boss,” Harris said.

“So then he's kind of like, 'Well, you know. You take Eastern Europe, I'll take the Western Hemisphere. Then you over there, you get Asia, and we'll just divide it up,'” she said.

The remarks quickly drew attention on social media, where reactions were divided.

Some conservative commentators criticized the comparison and her delivery. “Kamala Harris' 'Trump Impersonation' is the worst thing I have ever seen. Total cringe,” podcaster Benny Johnson wrote on X.

Another commentator said Harris had “failed miserably” in the impersonation, asking, “Is she drunk?”

At the same time, others expressed support for Harris’ broader critique of Trump’s foreign policy and his handling of the Iran conflict, particularly her questioning of his claim that Iran’s nuclear program had been “obliterated.”
