Internet abuzz as Jonathan Majors skips prison after he's found guilty of assaulting ex-GF Grace Jabbari
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Jonathan Majors has been sentenced to participate in a domestic violence treatment program after being found guilty of assault and harassment concerning his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
New York Judge Michael Gaffey ordered Majors to take part in a Los Angeles-based one-year “in-person batterers” intervention program on Monday, April 8, as reported by Deadline.
Jonathan Majors faces one year in jail
The 34-year-old 'Creed III' star faced up to a year behind bars after he was found guilty by a Manhattan jury on December 18, 2023, of two misdemeanor counts of reckless assault and harassment.
The guilty verdict was announced after a three-week trial and several days of deliberation stemming from an alleged altercation between him and then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, back in March 2023.
The 'Ant-Man' actor was convicted by three men and three women. Following the guilty verdict, Marvel Studios severed ties with him.
He had been cast as Kang the Conqueror, a character expected to be the central antagonist in the studio's upcoming films and television series, a role that would have likely established him as a major Hollywood actor.
It now remains unclear if his character will be recast.
Jonathan Majors is ordered to stay away from ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari and continue mental health counseling
Judge Gaffey also issued a permanent order for Majors against any contact with Jabbari.
He was also told to continue mental health counseling. The actor also cannot apply for or own a gun.
The judge also stressed that any breach of the sentencing terms might lead to Majors facing imprisonment for up to 364 days.
Additionally, failure to complete the West Coast intervention program could result in a six-month jail sentence for Majors.
Grace Jabbari's accusations on Jonathan Majors
Jabbari accused Majors of attacking her in the backseat of a chauffeured car.
In March 2023, 'The Last Man in San Francisco' actor and his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, a British dancer and choreographer were in the backseat of a chauffeured car in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.
Last year, prosecutors informed the court that Jabbari seized his phone upon seeing a text message stating, "Wish I was kissing you right now," which she presumed was from another woman.
In an attempt to get his phone back, he pulled Jabbari's finger, wrenched her arm behind her back, and struck her face. The driver stopped the vehicle and Jabbari attempted to exit but Majors threw her back in.
He insisted that his only intention was to retrieve his phone and safely get away from Jabbari. In a January interview, Majors admitted he was "reckless with her heart" but never was physical with Jabbari.
He said, "I'm an athlete. I'm a sportsman. I know my body. I know how it moves. I know my strength, or lack thereof, you know? None of that was employed on her."
Jonathan Majors' motion to drop the guilty verdict was tossed
Majors was "disappointed" when a judge upheld his guilty conviction on April 3, tossing away the motion to drop the charges.
Jonathan Majors' attorney Priya Chaudhry told TMZ shortly after the judge tossed the motion that Majors "upholds respect for the process."
She said, "He continues to draw strength from his friends, fans, family, and dogs, harnessing his art and creativity."
The attorney added, "As he eagerly anticipates closing this chapter, he looks forward to redirecting his time and energy fully toward his family and his art."
Internet weighs in with mixed reactions to Jonathan Majors' case
Following the sentencing on April 8 where he avoided jail time, the internet reacted with mixed responses.
"WoW! He got lucky. His attorney must’ve plea bargained to keep him outta jail. He’s a free man," wrote one on X. One took a swipe at Marvel Studios saying, "Marvel blew it."

One more wrote, "He was never getting jail time as it was his 1st offense so I saw that coming. A whole year of counseling for the first offense when we have video evidence of him running away and literally being chased is crazy to me."
"Didn’t deserve any of this, that white women set this brother up," expressed another. "So does that mean he can still play Kang??" asked one.
