'He has a few good years left': Internet backs Travis Kelce as he shuts down retirement rumors
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Star Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce left no doubt about his future plans in the NFL - he is not retiring anytime soon.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, January 11, ahead of this weekend's NFL playoffs, the 34-year-old nine-time Pro Bowler directly addressed the speculation that he may consider ending his career amidst the growing fame off the field, as reported by TMZ.
"I have no reason to stop playing football," Kelce plainly stated and added, "I love it. We still have success."
Travis Kelce quashes retirement rumors amid growing fame
Rumors of potential retirement have swirled around Kelce recently, even as he remains one of the NFL's top pass-catching threats. Kelce attributed the talk of his NFL exit to his budding entertainment career.
"I've been fortunate to do a few things outside of the sports world that I've been enjoying doing," Kelce acknowledged, referencing his recent Saturday Night Live hosting gig and multiple commercial appearances.
However, he emphasized that football remains his top priority. "It's funny for me to even say that at this point in my career because I think it's so much further down the road," Kelce added.
By all accounts, Kelce has never been happier or more motivated on the gridiron. His mother, Donna Kelce, stated that he is "happier than I’ve seen him in a long time" this season, partly fueled by his tabloid-dominating romance with music superstar Taylor Swift.
"It feels like I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now I’m even more on top of the world,” Kelce himself said earlier this season. The 11-year veteran backed up that confidence with another typically dominant campaign, recording 984 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the AFC-winning Chiefs (11-6).
Internet reacts to Travis Kelce dismissing retirement rumors
As the news of Kelce dismissing retirement rumors spread across the internet, the online community had a flurry of reactions. One Facebook user confidently asserted, "He has a few good years left." Another user questioned the very notion of retirement, stating, "Why would he retire? He still has a couple of good years left in him to play."
A more cautious perspective came from a user who remarked, "He might not want to retire, but his hands might make him retire sooner if they don’t hold on to the ball." In contrast, an enthusiastic supporter chimed in with, "Why would he! ? He loves the game and is having too much fun."
Adding a familial touch, a user brought in a sibling reference, commenting, "Why would he his old bro still kicking."
Injecting a bit of humor into the mix, one user playfully noted, "He has a billionaire to support! She ain't cheap!"
