LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A fiery debate on Bill Maher's 'Club Random' podcast has gone viral after fitness celebrity Jillian Michaels clashed with the host over his support for California Governor Gavin Newsom as a presidential contender.

What began as a passing comment from Maher quickly erupted into an impassioned takedown of Newsom’s leadership, with Michaels detailing a disturbing home invasion she suffered at the hands of a convicted criminal, who was then released early due to the governor’s COVID-19 policies, as per Daily Mail.

The conversation began innocuously enough, with Maher casually mentioning to his guest that he has been encouraging Newsom to launch a presidential campaign. But Michaels quickly shot down any notion that Newsom would make a viable candidate.

"My house got broken into," Michaels informed a surprised Maher. "Guess who let the guy out during Covid? Newsom. It was the guy’s third offense. He broke in with duct tape and a video camera."

Michaels went on to explain that this was the criminal’s third strike, meaning he should have gone to jail. But due to the COVID policies enacted by Newsom, including releasing some prisoners early, the man was let back out on the streets to continue his crime spree.

Bill Maher's persistent endorsement of Gavin Newsom for president

Michaels further lit into Newsom for his handling of various crises in California, from raging wildfires to out-of-control homelessness.

"You’re going to hold PG&E accountable for that fire in 2018. You’re going to decriminalize everything but regulate nothing. You’re going to prioritize the craziest s*** I’ve ever seen in my life," an impassioned Michaels told the stunned HBO host.

She also called out Newsom as a "hypocrite" for not abiding by his own strict COVID rules, like mask mandates, and for devastating school shutdown policies.

But Maher refused to acknowledge the validity of any of Michaels' points, instead laughing them off and persisting in his endorsement of Newsom. "He’s really smart. Is he a politician? Yes. Is he slick, good? Slick people win elections," Maher claimed.

Internet disapproves Bill Maher's endorsement of Gavin Newsom

Following the fiery clash between Michaels and Maher about Newsom, social media platforms witnessed a surge of disapproval toward Maher's endorsement.

One X user, expressing disbelief, exclaimed, "Bill is still supporting Newsome? I thought he had a little bit of sense?" Another mocked Maher, stating, "Bill Maher is a flaming Liberal, and he always will be even if he shows a bit of clarity at times as he has done in the past. He is a Party fanboy, there is no hope for him."

A third user dismissed Maher's political insights altogether, stating bluntly, "Bill Maher doesn’t know shit about politics. Never mind him when he says Gavin Newsom is great."

Users also took jabs at Maher's perceived detachment from ordinary citizens, with one stating, "Maher is a joke lol. Living in his mansion somewhere above the clouds and is surprised to hear an ordinary person's experience."

As the online backlash continued, a consensus emerged among users who deemed Maher out of touch with current realities. "He lives in a tiny tiny bubble. Unbelievable," one user quipped. Another said, "Bill is at least 10 years behind the times."
