CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA: Country musician John Rich stands on the other end of the political spectrum to Taylor Swift.

Rich is a vocal supporter of GOP nominee and former President Donald Trump. In contrast, the pop icon has recently thrown her support behind Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her vice-presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

John Rich critiques Taylor Swift’s support for Kamala Harris

Taylor Swift earlier endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020 during his campaign against Trump. However, Rich considers Swift's endorsement of Harris as potentially "dangerous" for young people.

While on 'OutKick The Morning with Charly Arnolt', Rich contended that the Minnesota governor's backing of "gender affirming care" for minors complicates Swift's endorsement, considering her audience's age demographic.

In 2023, Governor Walz enacted legislation to safeguard the rights of transgender individuals to obtain treatments like surgeries and puberty blockers, in addition to an executive order ensuring access to these medical options.

Rich said, “Go look at Minnesota, what they’re doing up there. They’re taking kids and taking state funds to take kids in, underage kids who are confused about whatever, and doing permanent damage to their physical bodies that they will never get over."

He added, "And who’s Taylor Swift’s crowd? Young people. People under the age of 18 who are listening to her and now they’re reading about Tim Walz, going, ‘Oh, she really likes Tim Walz, maybe I should like Tim Walz.’"

"I mean, you talk about dangerous. I mean, she is so dangerous right now to young people pushing what she’s pushing, because she does have their ear,” Rich remarked.

The actual effect of Swift's endorsement on the election remains to be seen, especially since her fan base largely consists of young individuals who have historically shown low voter turnout.

However, her post in support of Harris and urging fans to register to vote prompted more than 400,000 people to visit the website for registration information, as per Whiskeyriff.

Internet ridicules John Rich over Taylor Swift remarks

As soon as the news surfaced on Facebook, users started criticizing Rich for his statement against Swift, "He just doesn't like it that she has more influence than his buddies."

Another added, "Awe, show us where the mean girl hurt your feelings."

The third commentator remarked, "Another male failure taking it out on a super successful young woman. Pathetic".

One drew a comparison between Trump and Rich, "Apparently he’s a bozo like Trump."

"So its ok for him to tell people who he is voting for but it isnt ok for her to do the same…. What a hypocrite," a person said.

Other chimed in, "To hell with John Rich. He's an irrelevant joke."
