WASHINGTON, DC: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commemorated the 80th anniversary of the D-Day operation by sharing a social media post that seemed to suggest that former President Donald Trump is a threat to democracy comparable to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, according to Fox News.

Her social media post drew the ire of conservatives on Thursday, June 6, when she wrote, "Eighty years ago today, thousands of brave Americans fought to protect democracy on the shores of Normandy. This November, all we have to do is vote.”

The D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, which took place on June 6, 1944, stands as a pivotal event in the United States military history.

This operation marked a significant turning point in the course of World War II, signaling the commencement of the liberation of Europe from the grip of Nazi Germany by American and Allied forces.

What did Trump’s team say in response to Hillary Clinton’s D-Day tweet?

Conservative hardliners slammed Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate who competed against Donald Trump, for the aforementioned post on X, which they viewed as disrespectful to America's military veterans.

Per Fox News Digital, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung fired back, "Hillary Clinton is a stone-cold loser who presided over the horrific Benghazi debacle that led to the death of Americans.”

"Nobody takes Hillary seriously because it's clear she is beclowning herself in order to stay relevant after President Trump crushed her in 2016," Cheung remarked.

In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump secured victory over Hillary Clinton with 304 Electoral College votes. Trump narrowly clinched several crucial battleground states, despite Clinton winning the popular vote by a margin of 2.1%.

Clinton has previously compared Trump to Hitler. In a post on May 21 on X, she referred to him as "Grifter Hitler" and shared an Associated Press article regarding a video on Trump's Truth Social account that mentioned a "unified Reich" among potential headlines if he were to win the upcoming November election.

The Trump campaign claimed that the video was "created by a random account online and reposed by a staffer who clearly did not see the word."

The 77-year-old MAGA strongman has dismissed these allegations, telling Fox News in a recent interview that he is the "opposite" of a threat to democracy.

In recent polling regarding the presidential election, there has been a consistent voter preference for trusting President Joe Biden over Donald Trump concerning election integrity, the preservation or safeguarding of democracy, and the assurance of fair elections.

According to a recent Fox News poll, the 81-year-old incumbent holds a seven-point lead over Trump in election integrity.

However, the 2024 presumptive GOP nominee is in the lead over Biden in critical areas such as border and immigration, the economy, foreign policy, and crime, as the Fox News Tracker indicates.

Internet bashes Hillary Clinton for suggesting Trump is comparable to Hitler

One X user remarked, ""Lock her up!" Looks more and more like an opportunity missed."

Another user snarked, "Hillary Clinton hasn't destroyed a foreign country in at least 10 years... She deserves a little credit."

Another user said, "She simply should be in Jail!"

One user asked, "How can she possibly compare the hell and sacrifice that our brave heroes went through on Omaha Beach to us simply casting a vote?!?!?"

Another X user wrote, "Hillary is a complete and utter failure."

Finally, this user tweeted, "@HillaryClinton what a DEPLORABLE thing to say!"
