Huge Netflix paycheck that dragged Cameron Diaz out of her 10-year Hollywood hiatus revealed
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After a 10-year hiatus, Cameron Diaz has made her highly anticipated return to acting in the new spy thriller 'Back in Action' alongside Jamie Foxx.
The actress, known for her breakout role in 'The Mask' (1994), has reportedly secured a staggering $45 million deal with Netflix for just two films, according to RadarOnline.
'Back in Action' marks her first movie since her break, and to make the most of her impressive paycheck, she’s expected to star in a sequel. Currently, the film is soaring at the top of Netflix’s charts.
What did sources say about Cameron Diaz’s deal with Netflix?
According to sources speaking to RadarOnline, Netflix’s former film chief Scott Stuber and current head honcho Dan Lin offered Cameron Diaz a "name-your-price" deal to bring the 52-year-old actress out of retirement.
An insider revealed, "New boss Lin has been brought in to bring costs under control and improve quality. It’s one thing to say you won’t overpay for a package or a star, and it’s another to actually do it. Scott Stuber didn’t actually want to pay Cameron Diaz $45 million for two movies."
However, the deal ultimately came down to Diaz’s terms. "That’s what it took to lure her out of retirement. He asked her to name her price, and she did," the insider shared.
Cinemablend further reported on the high-stakes deal, pointing out that it’s a significant amount of money, especially for a star who hasn’t appeared in a film since 2014. Her last movie was 'Annie'.
"But that’s what it took to lure her out of retirement. He asked her to name her price and she did," the site noted, adding that it’s clear why Netflix would be eager to secure a deal with the beloved actress.
The source also emphasized that bringing Diaz back was a solid decision for Netflix, as ‘Back in Action’ is currently the No 1 trending movie in the US on the platform.
The film’s ending leaves room for a sequel, and with Diaz contracted for two movies with Netflix, a follow-up could be on the horizon.
While Netflix has yet to make an official announcement, the source pointed out that it “wouldn’t be all that surprising if a second installment were to be confirmed sometime soon.”
Following Diaz's return to acting, she has also been involved in major projects such as 'Shrek'.
What is Cameron Diaz’s net worth?
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Cameron Diaz is currently valued at an impressive $140 million, largely from massive paychecks from popular films like 'There’s Something About Mary', the 'Charlie's Angels' franchise, and the 'Shrek' series, where she voices Princess Fiona.
Her net worth is a staggering $100 million more than that of her rockstar husband, Benji Madden.
Diaz, who grew up in California, was drawn to the spotlight from an early age. She began modeling at just 16 and, by 21, her career skyrocketed after auditioning for 'The Mask', a film starring Jim Carrey that became one of the highest-grossing movies of 1994, earning over $350 million globally and propelling her to A-list status.
Diaz’s earnings continued to grow as she was paid $1 million for her role in 'Bad Teacher', which earned $216 million worldwide. Her salary was then renegotiated to include a percentage of the film's box office gross, leading to a remarkable $42 million for a single movie.
Outside of acting, Diaz co-founded Avaline Wines with her friend Katherine Power in 2020. The brand specializes in organic, sugar-free wines, and has already generated over $20 million in sales, according to Parade.
