Photographs captured Schafer, 25, being escorted out in handcuffs by the NYPD, donning a "Ceasefire Now" t-shirt. She and fellow demonstrators occupied the lobby of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, brandishing banners with messages such as "Jews to Biden: Stop arming genocide" and "Lasting ceasefire."

When asked by reporters about a ceasefire, Biden said, "I hope by the end of the weekend. My national security adviser tells me that we’re close, we’re close, we’re not done yet. My hope is by next Monday we’ll have a cease-fire."

The backdrop to this demonstration is the retaliatory bombardment and ground offensive by Israel against Hamas, resulting in approximately 30,000 Gazans' deaths, including thousands of children and women, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in the territory.

Israel launched the attack in response to Hamas infiltrating the country, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking more than 200 hostages.
