LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dua Lipa delved into the emotional toll of a viral meme about her in 2018 that haunted her at the time as she now sheds light on the impact of social media scrutiny.

In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, the 28-year-old singer reflected on how "really hurtful" she felt about the 'Go Girl Give Us Nothing' meme.

Dua Lipa says viral meme made her feel she 'just can’t seem to do anything right'

The viral meme in 2018 surfaced on social media after a user left a comment on the pop sensation's video of her on stage as she appeared to look detached as she swiveled her hips during her performance.

"I did find that really hurtful, and I found it really painful because I was like, ‘I’m finally getting to do something that I love to do, and I’m being shut down, that I just can’t seem to do anything right,’” Lipa told the outlet.

"Not only that, but I was also being thrown around the world. Lots of promos, lots of rehearsing, lots of everything, and not having really time to perfect anything," she added.

The 'Cold Heart' singer further noted that it is "always so easy with social media to get caught up in a negative spiral or people being mean, telling you what they think about you without really knowing you at all."

"It’s already so far-fetched, maybe, for some people to think that you have feelings or that you get upset. For me, I think it’s just important to be able to take things with a pinch of salt," Lipa continued.

Dua Lipa reflects on how she 'missed out' on her time with family during tour

Discussing the criticism about her frequent vacationing post her 'Future Nostalgia' tour in November 2022, Lipa said, "I think people are quick to forget."

"I was on tour up until the end of December. I felt like I missed out on so much time with my family and friends," the three-time Grammy winner told the publication.

"It shows how short our attention span is, which is why music comes out so much faster," she added.

The Recording Academy announced on Monday, January 15, that Lipa alongside Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish is set to perform at the 2024 Grammy Awards on February 4.

Lipa is also a nominee as she is competing for Best Song Written for Visual Media and Song of The Year for the 'Barbie' soundtrack's song 'Dance the Night.'
