LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Aaron Carter’s former doctor Dr John Faber wants a lawsuit against him dismissed as he dropped some bombshell accusations against the late pop star’s ex-girlfriend, Melanie Martin.

According to Faber, she had much to do with Aaron’s tragic downfall by allegedly giving him illegal drugs. And now, Faber wants the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Martin and her son to be thrown out.

Dr John Faber fires back at lawsuit

As reported by Radar Online, Dr John Faber’s legal team is firing back hard at the lawsuit, claiming he’s not to blame for Aaron Carter’s death. In fact, they want the whole thing dismissed.

Faber insists he wasn’t negligent in prescribing medication to Aaron and says the real problem was that the singer was scoring drugs from other sources — including his ex Melanie.

Faber first saw Aaron in June 2020, and right from the start it was clear that he was battling more than just anxiety. He admitted to Faber that he’d been taking Xanax for years and had a long history with alcohol and drugs including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, and more.

Faber described how Aaron felt during that time in his legal filing: "The patient reported that he felt frequently depressed, easily fatigued, irritable, and had experienced 10 panic attacks in the last month."

Although Aaron claimed he wasn’t abusing substances at the time, Faber wasn’t entirely convinced. The doctor performed a full psych evaluation and wasn’t sure Aaron was telling the whole truth.

"The patient denied any history of or ongoing substance abuse, however, the medical records indicate that Dr Faber still suspected that the patient may have had a history of substance abuse," Faber’s filing states.

Dr John Faber even checked a prescription monitoring database to make sure Aaron Carter wasn’t doctor-shopping for meds. It turned out that Aaron had been prescribed Xanax by another doctor in May 2020, just before he started seeing Faber. Over time, Faber continued treating Aaron with regular phone or video sessions, where they discussed his mental health and medication.

Faber's lawyer said in a statement: "Faber typically had visits with the patient via telephone or video conference that would usually occur one to two times a month, and Dr Faber would also answer the patient's emails on a regular basis.

"Throughout this time period, the patient's medical records indicate instances where the patient would admit to Dr Faber that he failed to adhere to Dr Faber's medication plan or indicated that he had obtained controlled substances from other non-medical sources, including an instance where he obtained controlled substances from his girlfriend," they added.

Faber claims he lowered Aaron’s prescriptions whenever he found out he was getting extra drugs from non-medical sources. His lawyer explained, "Dr Faber also warned the patient that if he failed to adhere to the medication treatment plan, Dr Faber would be forced to terminate his treatment of the patient."

In May 2022, things took another dark turn when Child and Family Services reached out to Faber about a drug test Aaron had failed. Aaron tested positive for opioids like hydrocodone and oxycodone, but Faber said he hadn’t prescribed those meds.

Aaron claimed they came from his dentist, and when Faber checked the database it backed up Aaron’s story. Even so, it was clear that Aaron was still battling his demons.

Aaron Carter’s heartbreaking end

Dr John Faber continued to treat Aaron Carter through the summer of 2022, and their last session together happened just weeks before Aaron’s death. During that final video call, Aaron confessed to huffing compressed gas but he insisted it was a one-time thing.

Faber told him to stop immediately and didn’t prescribe him any more medication. Tragically, Aaron was found dead in his bathtub just a few days later.

Faber's motion said: "The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Report indicated that the cause of death was ascribed to drowning as effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam. The report also ruled the death an accident, which occurred due to the patient being submerged in the bathtub after inhalation of compressed gas and intake of alprazolam."

Faber’s lawyers are adamant that the lawsuit should be dismissed.
