LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: When Selena Gomez confirmed her relationship with her now-fiance Benny Blanco at the end of 2023, only a handful of fans were unsurprised by the pairing.

Soon after news of the 32-year-old billionaire star’s relationship with her musician boyfriend emerged, social media was flooded with theories about what Gomez—a classically beautiful billionaire entertainer—sees in Blanco

While the Disney alum’s fiance faced criticism for his boy-next-door look compared to the 'Emilia Perez' actress, the soon-to-be 37-year-old musician is a star in his own right, boasting 11 Grammy nominations.

Nevertheless, even the most loyal Selenator has—at least once—wondered what sparked the unlikely pair’s romance. Speaking to Daily Mail, an insider revealed what cemented the relationship between the now-engaged couple.

Insider reveals reason why Selena Gomez chose Benny Blanco

Just a few months after confirming their engagement, the much-in-love couple made a dazzling red carpet appearance at the Oscars where the ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ actress turned heads in a Ralph Lauren gown embellished with Rosemont crystals and more than 16,000 drops of glass.

Blanco, on the other hand, posed a monochromatic foil to her shine in a white suit and his now signature springy curls and stubble.

However, the insider revealed that the couple’s red-carpet appearances reflect their relationship, with the unassuming and steady Blanco providing much-needed stability to Gomez, who has already led an eventful life.

While several social media users have trolled Blanco as the future “ugly husband” of the ‘Monte Carlo’ actress, as reported by the outlet, what they have between them has transcended beyond looks. It is the love that bonds the duo, shared the source.

The insider claimed, “Selena has said multiple times that Benny is the love of her life, and she means it." Then, the insider added that the music producer embodies something that Gomez values above everything: stability.

The insider also highlighted the disparity between the couple’s net worths. While Gomez boasts an estimated $1.3 billion—largely thanks to her makeup line Rare Beauty—Blanco has a comfortable $50 million.

But the source said that even though Blanco’s net worth is much lower than Gomez’s, she admires him for not being focused on money.

“Yes, they are both aware that Selena is worth so much more than Benny,” added the source before revealing that the Virginia-born ‘Lonely’ hitmaker has already signed a prenuptial agreement ahead of their marriage to “show [Gomez] that he wants nothing more from her than her love.”

Selena Gomez says she 'liked him before' he liked her

It was a love that brought the two kindred spirits together, as Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco admitted when they recently sat for their first joint interview with Interview Magazine

Speaking about how a chance meeting 12 years ago—arranged by her mother, Mandy Teefey—led to a lifelong friendship and eventually blossomed into an all-encompassing love.

Recalling the first meeting, Gomez shared, "I was around 16, 17," as Blanco added, "And we first had music come out in 2013 or something. Her mom set up a meeting between the two of us. This is right when I became big and she wasn't a singer yet."

He continued, "When she started putting out music, I was so into it. I feel like she was the original sad girl. Everyone was like (beatboxes) and she was like, (sings) ‘I just want to look good for you.’ (Laughs) I was drawn to it."

After collaborating on his 2019 song, 'I Can't Get Enough', the couple started their relationship in 2023.

Giving insights into the development of their relationship, Gomez shared, "It was really simple. We got in the studio to work on a song and we just talked; that’s how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me."

Blanco continued, "I hadn’t thought about it at all. And then we were texting afterward and we decided to get dinner the next day. I guess she thought it was a date and I had no idea it was a date."

He continued, “The second time we hung out, our second date, I was like, ‘Wait, does she like me?’ I was clueless. From then on, it was easy. You know when you think you met the right person, you’re like, ‘Oh my God.’ But it feels so different. The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife.’ I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.'”
