Intense Taylor Swift split speculation left Joe Alwyn ‘depressed and emotionally drained’, claims insider
LONDON, ENGLAND: Joe Alwyn recently opened up about the breakup with Taylor Swift, after more than a year of silence. He reportedly clarified that he was depressed and "emotionally drained" from the questions surrounding the split with the pop star.
In an interview with The Sunday Times Style, the actor opened up about his predicament, a source revealed to Daily Mail, with the hope that people would finally move on from his relationship with Swift.
Insiders reveal real reason why Joe Alwyn broke silence on Taylor Swift romance
Following the release of Swift's most recent album, 'The Tortured Poets Department,' Joe Alwyn felt "emotionally drained" by the constant queries about their six-year romance and subsequent breakup.
In an interview with the Sunday Times Style, the 33-year-old British actor revealed for the first time that he had "a long, loving, fully committed relationship" with the 34-year-old pop diva, saying their split was a "hard thing to navigate".
"Joe wanted to get this over with once and for all so he can move forward with his life and career," an insider told Daily Mail.
Alwyn allegedly responded to the rumors to "move forward" after Swift appeared to disparage him multiple times in her April released album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'.
The source added, "He never wanted to say anything and was hoping it would all blow over, but it hasn't. Taylor has made a fortune off their breakup by forming an entire album around it. Meanwhile he has been cast as 'Taylor's ex.'"
Alwyn initially hoped that the attention on their breakup would go away and that he could keep quiet about it. However, that didn't happen, and he became emotionally and mentally affected—especially when he was traveling to promote his new movie 'Kinds of Kindness'.
The insider continued: "He cannot go anywhere without being asked about Taylor. He had his people tell everyone in advance that he was not going to answer questions about Taylor, but he knew that is all people wanted to ask him about."
"It became depressing and emotionally draining," the insider said.
Joe Alwyn wants Taylor Swift to realize how hurtful some of her lyrics can be
In contrast to the pop star's current romance with Travis Kelce, the insider added that Alwyn and Swift chose to keep their relationship out of the public eye.
"Their romance was private – quite the opposite of her relationship with Travis [Kelce]. It was partly due to Covid restrictions, but they also preferred it that way," the insider said.
Alwyn has reportedly moved on and requested that inquiries focus on his films and profession rather than his romance with the pop diva.
The insider said, "Joe has moved on and is doing promotional work for his films and upcoming projects, so he decided he needed to get this out to move forward. He wants to be asked about his films, not about Taylor."
Alwyn, who dated the singer from 2017 to early 2023, has no "ill will" toward her, said the insider, but he does want her to realize how unpleasant some of her lyrics can be.
"He wishes her no ill will, but he also needed her to know that appearing to address their relationship without confirming who she is singing about can have a lasting and hurtful effect on the people/ men involved," the insider said.
The insider concluded by saying, "He does not want to discuss this anymore, but he knew that if he didn't say anything, it would go on indefinitely. Swifties never let anything die."
Swift has never acknowledged it, but many believe that the scathing songs about a man crushing her desires for marriage and children in her most recent album reveal more about her Joe Alwyn split.
Fans of Swift's most recent album 'The Tortured Poets Department' claim that songs like 'So Long, London,' 'The Black Dog,' and 'How Did It End?' describe their early 2023 breakup.
