'Running mate or cell mate': Internet divided as Trump Jr says he wants a 'fighter' as father's VP pick
WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump Jr wants his father, former president Donald Trump, to select a "fighter" as his running mate.
"What I want in that role is I want a fighter. I understand what they are going to throw at us," the former first son told the New York Post.
"In 2016 you needed someone to balance out [the ticket] — that's where Mike Pence made sense, sort of the yin and yang, but [given] the vicious nature of the swamp and the insanity we see on a daily basis, you need someone who can take those hits," Trump Jr added.
He further revealed that he has been lobbying his father to choose someone from his list, which includes prominent names like Senator JD Vance from Ohio, former GOP presidential hopeful and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Trump has already ruled out the possibility of Ramaswamy being his running mate, but he could be considered for a cabinet position if the former president wins in November.
Donald Trump Jr plans to be active in 2024 presidential transition team
Donald Trump Jr, who is playing an active role in his father's 2024 campaign, said that he and his fiancee Kimberly Guilfoyle would not be the second "Javanka," referring to his sister Ivanka Trump and brother-in-law Jared Kushner's senior White House roles in the first Trump presidency. However, he added, he'd "never rule anything out."
The former first son also said he intends to play a "very active" role in the presidential transitioning team if his father defeats President Joe Biden in November.
"Mostly just to make sure we stop some of the DC swamp rats and the swamp creatures from getting in there and doing their thing," Trump Jr reasoned his decision.
Trump Jr then prioritized former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and former Special Assistant to president Trump, Cliff Sims, as part of the transitioning team. "There are so many great people to choose from now with the first four years of the administration you have a good understanding of who would be great and loyal and implement the America First policies," he added.
He also downplayed his father's statement in December 2023, warning Biden of the consequences of indicting him. Trump, at the New York Young Republicans gala in 2023, said that the incumbent "opened up a Pandora's box" and warned the President should be "very careful" about what he wishes for.
Trump Jr dismissed the threat as a "joke," adding that Trump would "lead the country the way it's supposed to be led." "His retribution will be success for our country," he added.

"That's gotta be Tulsi Gabbard. The woman is a warrior. She does not back down. She had the gumption to call out the Democratic Party insanity, leave the party, stand tall, carry on & maintain her morals, ethics and compassion. Tulsi is a winning ticket. She'd be an ideal VP pick," said another individual.
