WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) has reaffirmed his support for President Joe Biden, stating that removing him from the Democratic presidential ticket would cause more harm than good.

Sanders, who ran against Biden in the 2020 Democratic primaries, argued that Biden can still win decisively against former president Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

In a recent interview, Sanders acknowledged Biden's imperfections but highlighted his strengths and potential to lead a strong campaign focusing on the needs of the working class.

Sanders believes Biden is the best candidate to face Trump in the 2024 election.

"I think he is the best candidate and I think if he runs a strong, effective campaign focused on the needs of the working class of this country, he will win big," Sanders told The New Yorker.

"And I think there’s a chance he could win big," he added.

Despite facing criticism after a poor debate performance against Trump which he termed as "disastrous," Sanders has urged the media to focus on Biden's record and future plans.

"What the media should be doing, in my view, is focusing on the contrast between Joe Biden, what his record is and what his vision is for the future, not just what happened in a debate," Sanders said.

He also pointed out, "And if you want to talk about cognitive capabilities and you want to talk about things that people say, take a hard look at Donald Trump as well," The Hill reported.

Bernie Sanders argues Joe Biden's record is the strongest of any president in modern American history

Sanders argued that Biden's polling numbers have not changed much since the debate, indicating a stable support base.

"And given these really horrific several weeks that Biden has had since the debate, where Democrats are busy attacking him, the media is busy attacking him, if he’s not any worse off today than he was before the debate, I think that he has a very good chance to win," Sanders said.

"The truth of the matter is Biden’s record, in my view, is the strongest record of any president in modern American history. I don’t think they’ve done a particularly good job of getting that out," Sanders said.

Internet reacts to Bernie Sanders' claim that Joe Biden could 'win big'

Internet was divided after Bernie Sanders' claim about Joe Biden with some suggesting that the senator's assertions were just a dream. On the other hand, others suggested he was right about what he is foreseeing.

"Dream on!" wrote one on X. One more wrote, "Bernie is right."

"What’s wrong with Bernie?" asked one referring to the oblivious and continued support despite concerns he will lose.

"I wish I had a friend like Bernie," wrote one more noting how Bernie has been constantly showing support to Biden despite backlash within the party.

"He can't even keep presidential candidates safe in his own country," mocked one user.

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, nor a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will," noted one.
