WASHINGTON, DC: Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace found herself at the center of internet outrage after she shared a photoshopped image mocking her colleague Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday, May 3.

Mace doctored AOC's iconic "Tax the Rich" dress from the 2019 Met Gala to instead read "Tax the Universities", a jab at the recent pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses that she has vocally opposed.

Nancy Mace captioned the photoshopped image, "She should have worn this redesign when she campaigned at an encampment a few days ago."

The tweet referenced AOC's recent criticism of the New York Police Department's handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations on university campuses like Columbia. "Calling in police enforcement on nonviolent demonstrations of young students on campus is an escalatory, reckless, and dangerous act," Ocasio-Cortez had stated.

Mace, a vocal critic of the pro-Palestinian protests sweeping colleges nationwide, had previously claimed on Fox News that billionaire Democrat George Soros was funding the organizations involved, an assertion that anchor Neil Cavuto swiftly refuted.

"There is no proof that these organizations are funded by George Soros by the way, their folks have denied that. I've looked for the checks, and I haven't seen them yet," Cavuto told Mace.

The photoshop stunt occurred just a day before Mace addressed The Citadel's graduating cadets as the 2024 commencement speaker, marking 25 years since she became the first woman to graduate from the prestigious military college, the Washington Examiner reported.

Law enforcement intervenes as pro-Palestinian college protests escalate

Police recently arrested over 25 pro-Palestinian protesters and disbanded an encampment at the University of Virginia, according to a university statement. The incident occurred amidst heightened tensions during graduation festivities across US campuses, as per Reuters.

At the University of Virginia's campus in Charlottesville, previously peaceful protests escalated on Saturday morning, May 4, when riot gear-clad police officers were filmed dispersing demonstrators from an encampment on the campus lawn, employing zip-ties and what seemed to be chemical spray.

Amid ongoing demonstrations, students nationwide have erected tents and organized rallies at numerous universities to denounce the prolonged conflict in Gaza. They called upon President Joe Biden, known for his support of Israel, to take more decisive action to halt the violence in Gaza.
