NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton seemed to allude to her defeat in the 2016 election during a surprise appearance at the Tony Awards on Sunday, June 16.

"Now, I have stood on a lot of stages, but this is very special," Clinton said before introducing a musical number from 'Suffs,' a Broadway show she co-produced. "And I know a little bit about how hard it is to make change," she said. 'Suffs' centers on the battle for women's suffrage and the right to vote.

Hillary Clinton says it's important to remind people the importance of vote

"It’s almost impossible to think about what a challenge that was," Clinton said, according to Fox News. "But now it’s an election year, and we need to be reminded about how important it is to vote," she added.

The play's creator, Shania Taub, won two Tonys for the musical on Sunday, June 16.

Hillary Clinton says she is related to all the 'Suffs' characters

"I know how important it is to have relationships with the people you’re working for, as you’re taking risks and you’re doing things that have never been done, whether it’s running for president in my case or having a march on Washington in 1913 to try to convince the president and the Congress to adopt the amendment to let women vote," she said.

"But more than that, I see it as relevant today," the former secretary of state added. "We have a lot of challenges in our country," she further said.

Hillary Clinton previously blamed women for her 2020 loss

Clinton recently held American women accountable for her 2020 defeat. Clinton claimed that female voters were the ones who abandoned her after then-FBI Director James Comey reopened an investigation into her email server prior to the election.

"They left me because they just couldn’t take a risk on me, because as a woman, I’m supposed to be perfect. They were willing to take a risk on Trump — who had a long list of, let’s call them flaws, to illustrate his imperfection — because he was a man, and they could envision a man as president and commander-in-chief," Clinton said, according to The New York Times.

Hillary Clinton opens up on voters' choice between Joe Biden and Donald Trump

During an appearance on 'Morning Joe' in May, the former presidential candidate also seemed irritated by Americans who are not excited about the option between President Biden and former President Trump.

"We have two old candidates. One is, yes, old and effective, has passed legislation that I think is going to put America on such a strong footing for the future, is compassionate, cares about people, tries hard to make the right decision, and they are complicated," she told MSNBC, adding "The other is old and dangerous. I mean, why is that a hard choice for people?"

Internet mocks Hillary Clinton for whining about her loss during an awards show appearance

Netizens took shots at the former first lady. One X user wrote, "Hahahahahahahahaha Now, she’s going on award shows to whine about events from almost a decade ago. Typical progressive" while another tweeted, "She served as Secretary of State where she successfully committed multiple crimes and then destroyed the evidence only to get a slap on the wrist."

"Still voting for Trump. For the 3rd time," commented one and another chimed in, "Kilary CLinton ? hows next on her list." "We are going on 8 years and she is still reminiscing. It’s a longer farewell tour than the Eagles," echoed one user. "The only presidential hopeful to LOSE an election to Donald Trump. That will be her legacy after all those years of," said one.
