MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: The recent move of California Governor Gavin Newsom to a lavish $9.1 million mansion in Marin County, where his four children are now attending Marin County schools, has sparked a flurry of online conversation.

Critics have voiced concerns regarding the expenditure of taxpayer funds and the consequences of his new abode.

The Democrat, heralded as a potential future presidential contender, will retain his six-bedroom home valued at $3.7 million in Fair Oaks, a suburb of Sacramento, where he will spend several nights a week with his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

He plans to relocate his children to a $9.1 million home 90 miles away in Kentfield, Marin County, where his eldest child, Montana, has enrolled at The Branson School which has tuition fees up to $60,000 a year, according to Daily Mail.

The 5,600 square foot mansion's purchase was finalized on Thursday, with Newsom paying 7 percent above the asking price for the property that occupies less than an acre.

The six-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom home features a guest house, floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Mount Tamalpais, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa, and a garden adorned with sculptures and a fire pit. Additionally, the bedrooms boast several walk-in closets.

A spokesperson for Newsom did not confirm the acquisition of the property but stated, "The family continues to split their time between Sacramento and Marin counties."

He added, "The family's children are transitioning grade levels, including to high school. The Governor and First Partner want to create continuity in their children's education, recognizing the Governor's term ends in January 2027."

The residence was once the property of Daniel Pritzker, an heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune. Newsom is familiar with the locality, having owned a Kentfield home he bought in 2011 for $2.2 million which he sold a decade later in May 2021.

Marin has turned into a hotspot for celebrities and venture capitalists, with the median home price reaching $1.76 million in September.

"He'll probably fit right in," Jeff Leh, the president of the Kentfield homeowners association, made a statement to the San Francisco Standard.

"We've got a ton of people of that kind of stature. I would never divulge individuals, but you could probably put the math together — Belvedere, Ross, Tiburon — you're familiar with Billionaire's Row?," Leh said.

"It's widely publicized that there are great schools throughout Marin, but Kentfield and Ross have really great schools,"  he added.

Questions raised over taxpayer funds following Gavin Newsom’s $9.1 million mansion purchase

As soon as news of Gavin Newsom's new mansion hit social media, there were numerous questions raised about the finances involved.

A user asked, "How much tax payer money is unaccounted for in California???"

Another added, "Tax payers paying for this while Americans are suffering."

Another commentator demanded, "A complete audit must be done by @DOGE."

"Money laundering from CA taxpayers," a critic claimed.

A person said, "Gavin Newsom's net worth is allegedly north of $20 million. Didn't realize being a public servant was such a well-compensated profession."

Another chimed in, "Newsom makes $218,556 yearly. Where did he get that sort of money? We need an audit on him."
