Internet slams Fani Willis for showing ‘no shame and no remorse’ after DA says she’s ‘not embarrassed’ by her actions

ATLANTA, GEORGIA: In the midst of a storm of controversy, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis attempted to defend her reputation and commitment to justice.

The recent developments in the case involving former President Donald Trump have thrust her into the spotlight, raising questions about ethics, impartiality, and the pursuit of justice.

At the center of the controversy lies Willis' past relationship with Nathan Wade, a former special prosecutor hired for the Trump election interference case.

Fani Willis 'not embarrassed'

Despite facing scrutiny over the affair, Willis expressed no shame or regret. In her first public comments since the judge's ruling, she declared, "I don't feel like my reputation needs to be reclaimed."

“Let’s say it for the record, I’m not embarrassed by anything that I’ve done,” she added.

“I guess my greatest crime is that I had a relationship with a man but that’s not something I find embarrassing in any way. I know I have not done anything that's illegal.”

The saga took a dramatic turn earlier this month when Judge Scott McAfee ruled that while the relationship between Willis and Wade raised concerns of impropriety, it could be resolved if one of them stepped down from the case.

Wade promptly resigned, allowing Willis to continue leading the prosecution against Trump and others accused of interfering with the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

However, McAfee's ruling did not put an end to the controversy. Willis faced criticism for her combative testimony during the hearings and for delivering what some perceived as racially charged remarks at an Atlanta Black church, the New York Post reported.

Despite these challenges, Willis reaffirmed her commitment to the case, insisting that her team had not been slowed down by the distractions.

“While that was going on, we were writing responsive briefs, we were still doing the case in a way that it needed to be done. I don’t feel like we’ve been slowed down at all. I do think there are efforts to slow down this train, but the train is coming,” she told CNN.

“We’re not going to miss or skip a beat because of all the noise or distraction on one case. We’re going to continue to do our work,” the DA added.

However, she's not out of the woods yet considering McAfee granted Trump and his co-defendants the right to appeal the ruling, further delaying the trial and potentially pushing it beyond the upcoming election in November.

Willis acknowledged the importance of following due process but remained hopeful that the trial would proceed in a timely manner. "We may ask for [an August trial date] again," she stated, "but we do understand a case has to go through the steps and go through the process."

“I’m also realistic that one of the defendants has multiple cases going on and some of them have trial dates that are ahead of ours,” she added, referring to Trump’s multiple cases. “So, I’m always going to be respectful of sister jurisdictions.”

Willis faces social media backlash

The embattled DA, however, faced quite a backlash on social media after she said she was "not embarrassed" by her actions. Many condemned her lack of remorse and ethical standards.

"That's exactly the problem: no shame and no remorse," one posted on X.

"Of course not..no ethics..no morals," another wrote.

"Of course not, because Democrats know they can get away with anything," someone else alleged.

"She should be embarrassed about how she presented herself on the stand. Anyone else would’ve been held in contempt," a comment read.

"She’s above the law," another remarked.
