ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A Georgian judge said on Monday, February 12, that it was "possible" for Fani Willis, the district attorney for Fulton County, to lose her status in the state's lawsuit alleging that former President Donald Trump was involved in election interference.

Judge Scott McAfee of the Fulton County Superior Court said that on Thursday, February 15, he will schedule an evidentiary hearing to look into allegations of a romantic relationship between Willis and Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor in the case.

In a broad racketeering prosecution based on attempts to alter Georgia's 2020 presidential election results, Trump and 18 other defendants were accused in August 2023.

Allegations against Fani Willis

In a January filing, one of those co-defendants, former Trump campaign official Mike Roman, presented the allegations against Willis. Roman's legal team demanded that Willis and Wade be removed from office and that the accusations against Trump be dropped because they had an "improper, clandestine personal relationship" that contaminated the investigation.

Although they were reluctant to talk about it at first, Willis and Wade confirmed their connection earlier in February 2024. On the other hand, the district attorney denied claims that the personal relationship affected the case and implied that her race was the driving force behind the assaults.

McAfee would still hear arguments on the matter

Nevertheless, McAfee said that he would hear arguments on the matter, which may only erode public confidence in the probe into an alleged plot involving Trump and the 18 co-defendants who were charged with conspiracy to rig the 2020 presidential election.

During a proceeding, McAfee said, "It’s clear that disqualification can occur if the evidence is produced demonstrating an actual conflict or the appearance of one. I think it’s possible that the facts alleged by the defendant could result in disqualification. I think an evidentiary hearing must occur to establish the record on those core allegations."

Subpoenas for many witnesses to testify on Thursday, February 15, were denied by McAfee. The judge, however, went on to say that he would take steps to keep the proceedings "focused" and would take action to save Willis and Wade from "undue embarrassment."

Internet trolls Fani Willis

Several Internet users expressed their views whereas many others ended up trolling DA Fani Willis on X.

A user wrote, "We all knew this was coming. The question is, were these all filed with the intent of dropping them later and only used as a distraction to sway people's opinions about Trump?" whereas one said, "And the possibility she may have revealed confidential Grand Jury materials to other people."

A person also mentioned, "Too bad he thinks. Encouraging but we need an 'outcry of justice' from more lawmakers. Forget Trump, this type of prosecutorial overreach Is dangerous for all of us. Where’s our Representative on this?" while another person commented, "It’s safe to say that her career is over. Bye bye Fani Willis."

A user also wrote, "It seems the judge is taking the allegations seriously and believes they warrant further investigation."
