Iran claims Trump readying another major attack, vows 'sustained retaliation' against US, allies

TEHRAN, IRAN: Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States as President Donald Trump signals that he is close to making a major decision on the seven-month-old war.

Tehran said on Sunday, September 20, that it had information suggesting Washington and its allies were preparing another large-scale attack and warned that any new offensive would bring sustained retaliation against US bases and interests across the region.

The warning comes as Saudi Arabia faces fresh attacks and Washington urges Americans to prepare for further disruption.

Tehran warns of a wider war

Iran’s military central command said any new US or allied attack would not be treated as an isolated strike.

Tehran warned that US regional allies would also be considered parties to the conflict and could face consequences.

Iran did not provide details of the intelligence it said pointed to preparations for another US attack.

But the warning comes at a particularly tense point in the conflict, with fighting already spreading beyond the direct US-Iran confrontation.

The State Department issued a new security alert over the weekend, telling Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance.

The warning also flagged the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and other travel disruptions as the security situation changes.

The US advisory came after Iran-backed Houthi forces claimed attacks involving missiles and drones against Saudi Arabia, including strikes aimed at Riyadh and an oil facility in Yanbu.

Saudi authorities said they intercepted a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh, while Houthi officials said the group had launched ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones toward the Saudi capital and Saudi oil infrastructure.

Trump says 'very big things' are coming

Against that backdrop, Trump said Sunday that he is in what he called a “deciding mode” over Iran and warned that “very big things” could happen soon.

Speaking to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump laid out a stark choice between escalating pressure, taking military action, and reaching a deal with Tehran.

He also warned Iran to “behave,” using unusually severe language while discussing the possibility of a major escalation.

“My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up?” Trump said. “They better behave.”

Trump did not, however, close the door on diplomacy.

He said he would “probably be open” to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
