'It was tone deaf': Jo Koy slammed as he admits his Golden Globes Taylor Swift joke was 'little flat'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Comedian Jo Koy is again facing a wave of backlash on the internet following his Golden Globes joke about Taylor Swift, which he admitted was "a little flat" and "weird."
The comedian landed the role just under two weeks ago, sharing that his "crash course" for the January 7 event at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, was already quite challenging even before the grand night approached, as cited by Radar.
The host of the 81st Golden Globe Awards has been under fire for making a joke about Swift.
The joke was about the awards ceremony being broadcast on CBS immediately following a football game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs.
The singer has reportedly become associated with the team due to her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce.
"As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader," Koy said during the event. He went on to add, "The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear."

What did Jo Koy say about his Golden Globes Swift joke?

“The Taylor one was just a little flat…It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL…I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that.… pic.twitter.com/27kUv5tFfz
Jo Koy made an appearance on 'GMA3: What You Need to Know' where he responded to the largely negative feedback he received for his hosting role at the 2024 Golden Globes.
The comedian confessed that the criticism stung a little. Alison Herman, a television critic for Variety, harshly critiqued Koy, labeling him as "woefully unqualified" for the role of an awards show host.
"I had fun. You know, it was a moment that I’ll always remember. It's a tough room. It was a hard job, I'm not going to lie…I'd be lying if [I said] it doesn't hurt," Koy stated.
Koy said, "I hit a moment there where I was like, 'Ah.' Hosting is just a tough gig. Yes, I’m a stand-up comic but that hosting position it’s a different style."
"I kind of went in and did the writer's thing. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was a crash course. I feel bad, but I got to still say I loved what I did," he declared.
Swift, who was in the audience, seemed unimpressed and took a sip from her drink.
When questioned about any moments from the Globes that he regretted, Koy confessed to 'GMA 3', "I think it was when the Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat…It was a weird joke, I guess."
"But it was more on the NFL…I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way."
Jo Koy continues to face criticism
Despite Jo Koy's admission that his Golden Globes joke about Taylor Swift was "a little flat," the internet continues to slam him, with the online community not holding back in expressing their disapproval.
A user on X wrote, "A little flat? it was tone deaf and offensive. read the room."
Another user added, "The taylor joke wasn’t the only joke that was weird lmao the barbie one was much worse."
"Jo Koy WAS NOT a good host. Don't invite him back," stated another.
"It was unfunny and awkward. He should’ve kept that one in the drafts, fr," claimed another.
While one user added, "Why’s he backtracking," another mentioned, "Little flat? it was weird wtf."
