NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump is "in the process" of interviewing new lawyers to represent him in the appeal of damages verdict in the defamation case filed against him by longtime advice columnist E Jean Carroll, reported The Hill.

The leading Republican candidate disclosed his legal team's shift in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, January 30, while also criticizing Judge Lewis Kaplan, who presided over the trial.

"I am in the process, along with my team, of interviewing various law firms to represent me in an Appeal of one of the most ridiculous and unfair Witch Hunts our Country has ever seen - The defamation Sham presided over by a Clinton appointed, highly partisan, Trump Hating Judge, Lewis Kaplan, who was, together with certain other Radical Left Democrat Judges, one of the most partisan and out of control activists that I have ever appeared before," Trump wrote.

Trump, outraged over the verdict, called it a "Biden Directed Witch Hunt" against him and announced his decision to appeal.

Trump slams Judge Lewis Kaplan

In his post, the White House hopeful accused Judge Kaplan of denying him due process by not allowing him to present vital evidence, which Trump claims was abundant.

Trump added that the judge restricted his time on the witness stand for minutes, directed his lawyer what to ask, and told him to respond with one-word answers.

"This entire HOAX is a disgrace to our American System of Justice. Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either 'CRAZY' or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT. I will make my decision soon!" The former President said.

Alina Habba, an attorney based in New Jersey, initially represented Trump in the defamation trial and continued to represent him in the subsequent civil fraud lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Habba made headlines several times during the Carroll trial due to her heated exchanges with Judge Kaplan. On the last day of the trial, the judge threatened to jail the attorney for failing to adhere to courtroom procedures.

NYC and other cities are bracing for a possible indictment of former President Donald Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in his investigation into the former president's involvement in a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election.

She also had a meltdown after exiting the courtroom on the final day, stating she was proud to represent Trump and did not regret it.

Internet reacts to Trump's plans to hire a new lawyer

Netizens mocked Trump for ditching Habba and hiring a new law firm to represent him in the appeal.

One user said, "I've lost count!"

Another user remarked, "He won't have the money."

"Lmao Who’s going to tell them that they will never be paid??" a user added.

A mocking response read, "You mean that there are actually more attorneys looking to work for him?"

"hard to find a good lawyer that is willing to do as he says. Who is willing to risk their law license? Who wants to have a Loser for a client?" one user wrote.

Another wrote, "Good luck finding any lawyer who will represent him!"
